Senator, Congressman Introduce Bills To Address Postal Managers Unreasonable Workload

From the Postmasters.org website:

“Senator Akaka (D HI) and Congressman Gerald Connolly (D VA) have both introduced a bill that would add language to title 39 that puts into law that postmasters and other supervisory personnel shall have a reasonable and sustainable workload and schedule. These bills both address the unreasonable overload that the Postal Service has placed on managers over the last several years. The bills would also clarify certain provisions concerning consultation and changes or terminations in certain proposals.- The League, along with Napus and Naps, supports these bills.”

  1. Does anyone know when they are supposed to switch to delivering mail only 5 days a week? It doesn’t bother me either way if I get mail on Saturday. I wouldn’t even mind just getting mail once a week.

  2. WA WA WA QUIT your crying You wouldn’t have to do more work if you would stop cutting CRAFT JOBS! Hell you’re probably not even doing it right anyway! So thank your BOSS PMG POTTER!!! he seems to think you can get the mail out with no people and at the same time cut the shit out of SERVICE I think he forgets that his paycheck says: The U S Postal Service (SERVICE) being the key word!! Maybe he mixes it up with his other checks from fed-ex and ups… He should be FIRED!!!!!!!!

  3. Our congress is staffed with people that we elected. We voted to make a change within this country. Complaints are many and we want change. Make a stand at your jobs with a simple tag on your chest—- ” I’m for REFORM, NOT REGRETS”. Just wear it for one day any day you chose. Just maybe it makes our congress think about their responsibility. Become a silent protester..

  4. I think the provisions are aimed at Postmasters in smaller offices having to pick up the workload when PTF hours are cut due to the current budgets. I really doubt upper management supports these provisions if they come from these organizations.

  5. a manager in labor told a Union Stuart while she was laughing oh so I see all of your so called injured co-workers are back to full duty! now that we are doing this (NRP) I see HA HA HA I think this is bullshit. as an injured employee who still works even though I’m in pain everyday.. (her fat ass is also hurt) but because she is in management it’s a different story they don’t have to get reassessed WHY? it really sucks that we have to work in a hostile work environment from our co-workers but when you hear the two face management talk shit like that it really pisses me off, because they act like their your friend to your face but when you walk away they talk shit (COWARDS) who weren’t worth a shit as workers anyway that’s why they go into management or their lazy/bully’s. the only thing that’s over worked is their ass kissing skills..ATTN MANAGEMENT: ERRP is waiting for you to be fitted for your knee pads your old one are worn out! OK you have a few good managers but they are rare

  6. What a crock, I wroked as a Mail carrier 25 years before becoming an Austin Apartment Locator , I have seen supervisors do everything except work as hard as they alledge. I could tell you stories, but then again, most “workers” carriers, Mail handlers, & clerks have seen the same things. If they really want to help, then why not have the govt GIVE BACK the 70 something billion that has been over paid to pre-fund the retiree’s heatlh care?

  7. THE TOP MANAGERS AT THE DENVER P&DC MAKE OVER 100,000 A YEAR AND SPEND MOST OF THE EVENING SMOKING AND SCREAMING ON THE DAMN RADIO. IT IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!! CUT THEIR SALARIES SOMEONE NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THAT SHIT!!! HELLO POSTAL REGULATORY COMMISSION!!! HELLO MEDIA CHANNEL 4,7,9,31

  8. MANAGERS ARE WAY OVERPAID ……WE DO THE SAME DAMN JOB EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! WHEN IN THE HELL WILL CONGRESS, MEDIA OR ANYONE LISTEN?????? WE DO NOT NEED 20 MANAGERS TELLING 20 SUPERVISORS TO TELL THE EMPLOYEES TO DO THE SAME DAMN THING THEY DID YESTERDAY!!!!! WAKE THE FUCK UP

  9. Yep. Managers are overworked. (Dripping Sarcasm) It wears one out calling people names and giving “Rah Rah” speeches

  10. Truth is power.
No one really knows who set the standards and what “formula” was used to arrive at these assorted job function time requirements. YES THE USPS SYSTEM NEEDS A DRAMATIC OVERHAUL! But no one assigned the task of evaluating the numerous levels of work is really qualified.

New employees are worked the hardest and told the least about important issues like 1. Safety, 2. Accuracy, 3. Speed
REALITY CHECK PLEASE! Let’s look at the mail carriers who serve the customers thru all weather and obstacles. Especially the RCAs. They are the ones who make the most money for the USPS without question or complaint because they are just thankful to have a job. BTW, their jobs are 6 days a week and have NO benefits. They are the ones who get all the blame for mistakes and no rewards.

When they have been around long enough to know the way operations flow in their office, they still receive all the burden, blame and no rewards. If they are unfortunate enough to require Union or Workers Comp or Eeo or Eap assistance to correct a problem or injury that they are suffering with because of the unreasonable working conditions and expectations placed upon them, then they are treated like lepers by their co-workers. The latest term used instead of being fired or laid off is “absorbed”. In the meantime just try to imagine the pressure this places on all the workers.

The system is broken from the inside out. Lack of morale. Lack of caring. Everyone for themselves. Some people do most the work while it’s true, others justtryto look busy and take lots of illegal breaks.

I can’t change the system, but I can try not to become part of the problem. I do my job with safety and pride and try to keep a positive attitude and speak the truth in a loving and positive way. Perhaps if we all did that we wouldn’t be inthis pickle.

  11. How come you never hear anyone say anything about postal workers that are lazy and just want to talk and do crossword puzzles while they are suppose to be processing mail. Our supervisors have to be civil to the employees who don’t work while some employees who don’t want to do their job when told to seem to think they can yell and scream at the supervisors. A lot of jokes you hear about postal workers being lazy and having an easy job is unfortunately the truth. There are good employees but their are many that think they don’t have to give an honest day’s work for an honest day’s wage. We get paid very well for the job we have to do.

  12. You have got to be kidding me? Management does nothing but lash out at the craft employees. They are like some of these bankers who look at ponography all day while getting paid. I wouldnt mind getting the salary for what little they do except I have a conceince and couldnt treat employees with the amout of hostility they do because I know I would have to go home and face my family and GOD as they do. I have spent the last four years trying to get the system to make up for what a Postmaster was allowed to do, while working at the PO, against me and my family until I almost lost everything. This is what Congress needs to be checking into and it will straighten out a great deal of the turmoil that makes the US Postal Service such a hostile work enviroment.

  13. I retired from the USPS two years ago {40+years}. Things must have changed a great deal. I NEVER saw a manager overworked. EVER. While they lower the work load, also LOWER their SALARY!
    .

  14. The whole problem with the USPS and staffing is PMG POTTER! The work load is put on lower management to do craft work because of the cuts, yet PMG POTTER keeps adding more managers @ the HEADQUARTERS leavel.. We need a NEW PMG!
