Video: Senate Committee Holds Confirmation Hearing for Stephen Crawford To USPS Board of Governors

From C-Span:

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee held a confirmation hearing on the nomination of Stephen Crawford to the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors.

Crawford was part of President Obama’s 2008 transition team for the U.S. Postal Service where he made recommendations on policy. Among them he suggested that the Post Office offer free PO boxes to citizens as a substitute for delivery to their homes and reduce frequency of mail delivery to 3 to 5 times a week.

The Board of Governors directs and controls postal service expenditures, reviews its practices and sets policy on all postal matters. It consists of 9 governors, appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

Crawford is currently a research professor at the George Washington Institute of Public Policy at George Washington University.

Previously, he served as Vice President for Policy and Research at the Corporation for Enterprise Development from 2009 to 2011, and Deputy Director of the Metropolitan Policy Program at the Brookings Institution from 2008 to 2009.

Prior to that, Crawford was the Director of Social, Economic and Workforce Programs at the National Governors Association from 2002 to 2007 and Vice President, Treasurer, and Board Secretary of the National Policy Association from 2000 to 2002.

those expecting an appointment of a governor who will support the Post Office as a democratic institution, which will honor its mandate of providing affordable service to all its citizens, and good jobs for the country, may well be disappointed.

  1. Just providing insight into my sexuality even though no one asked for it and unrelated to any article…get it? Proud to be HETEROSEXUAL !

  2. obama said last sept the post office needs to go to 5 day delivery, the pmg said so to,the senate agrees, the house agrees,70% of the public agree, and still with declining mail volume,i get 20 hrs ot a paycheck, keep draggin your feet boys and don’t hire anybody, you know since we are going to 5 days very very very soon.

  3. If President Obama had any real balls, and this criticism comes from a Democrat who is quite disappointed with him, he’d fire Donohoe outright, never approve Crawford and get people in charge who actually want to make the Postal Service a successful service in the future. But it’s not all President Obama’s fault – we can’t expect Republicans to do anything for the middle class, organized labor or anybody who isn’t stinking filthy rich, but the Democrats could have been more labor friendly. Clinton did one of the worst things ever by signing on to NAFTA after begging for union endorsements. The left has moved slowly toward the right ever since.
The problem is that by digging their philosophical heels in and creating an enormous division between the two major parties, the GOP successfully bullied the other side into a position of weakness instead of the left standing up for their core principles. Not that they have many, either. What a sad commentary.

  4. The union busts another postal bubble. Voted for Obama and he nominates a man that will make policy to take away their own jobs – hoooraaaay APWU!

  5. How does “The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee” have a say in this? Seems to me the The Senate Homeland Security is usurping way too much power in all affairs. This idea that there is a terrorist around every corner has sure putting the government in charge removing all of rights already. Snooping into medical records, illegal and secret searches. Now they are in charge of vetting bureaucrats?
