  1. THANK YOU, ED!!!!! I am a postal supervisor and have been more concerned about this travesty as a citizen than an employee earmarked to lose a job. FYI, we were informed approximately 3 months ago that the Postal Svc could no longer afford to pay their share of our current retirement funds – no doubt so that the money could go into the 75yr pre-funded retirement account for individuals that have not been born yet. I’d like to know who came up with that one. It’s absolutely criminal what the gov’t has done with the Postal Svc. This should be the last institution the gov’t would ever allow to go under, much less force under. I think all gov’t officials that have been bought out and/or support the demolishment of the postal service, should be held for treason. This is an absolute attack against America by it’s own gov’t – specifically the Bush administration and Issa.

  2. Everybody should just calm down. There will be no layoffs. There won’t be anyone having to retire just because your are eligible. Issa and Donahoe’s master plan isn’t going to work. HR 2309 may get through the House, but it will be trashed when it gets to the Democratic controlled Senate. Even if it did (but it won’t) get through the Senate, do you think that Obama would okay a bill that breaks a union contract? This would be devastating on his re-election hopes. Remember, just last month, he was telling the unions that he was a “union man”! Whats going to happen is this. As we speak, the GAO and Dept of the Comptroller is investigating to see if the USPS actually did make an overpayment and are due money back. When they decide “YES”, then that money will be used for voluntary early out incentives. When the smoke clears, everybody will be happy. Except for maybe the Republicans whose main goal is to break one of the largest unions in the country and to privatize the Post Office. So fear not, just sit back and cheer as this whole debacle unfolds !

  3. WELL MILDRED I HAVE 38 YEARS, I WORK HARD FOR THE MONEY. I AM PUTTING ALL MY KIDS THROUGH COLLEGE. I DON’T DESERVE ANYTHING EXTRA DUE TO MY SENIORITY. SLACKERS COME IN ALL SHAPES, COLORS, SIZES AND AGES. WHAT TROY DAVIS HAS TO DO WITH THIS , I DON’T KNOW. I DO KNOW THIS IT WAS HIS SECOND SHOOTING THAT HE WAS CHARGED WITH. I DON’T HEAR YOU MENTION THE VICTIMS. OH BY THE WAY I VOTED FOR OBAMA.

  4. Those who are fully vested, or have the age to retire, should do so, there are people there, that have over 40 years, of service, come on already, it’s time to leave. Give others a chance, now.

If, a lot of these people were to leave, that are fully vested, no one would have to be layed off, Sorry, but we do need change.

  5. Obama has been weak on the issue of pre-funding because eliminating it would somehow raise the federal budget by 5.5 billion a year

  6. to all those who inquire about mildred. I am a young postal worker with over ten yrs in. I work with people who have a lot of years in the system and think that they don’t have to do as much work because as they put it , they have paid their dues. The military and firefighters all have restrictions. I am a planner. And if you were smart you would not re mortgage your house for your children or take out your tsp money to help them. Financial advisers tell people that all the time. It is for your retirement. So, all sounds like poor personal decisions to me. Troy Davis should not have been put to death. All the people who molest children should be instead of just registering their names in a system. And when this is all said and done, it’s called a business move. Nothing personal. And some people don’t like to hear the truth. And a lot of people need to change their fabulous life style and stop living beyond their means and maybe yo would have cash for rainy days or this recession that your dear president Bush made this possible and has trickled down to or current president. And I will not comment on this subject. Have a nice future and plan well and look out for #1.

  7. “80% of costs are human beings, causes built in inefficiencies” , OK Darrell from your view point that means CONGRESS is 100% human beings so how about if we start getting rid of the “inefficiencies” there first!

  8. Poor jack potter. Noone pays you any mind. Don’t leave us jackie boy! The forums wouldn’t be the same w/o our favorite griefer. 🙂

  9. Hey Issa, some of us CSRS/FERs employees were wondering if we could get some new chairs in our break/quiet rm.after all the dust settles The same ones we have, have been there since 1995 when the buliding open and their gross to sit in.

With all these places closing im sure there are some hand me downs to be found somewhere?

  10. They not only stole more than 80 billion dollars out of our retirement (CSRS) system, but now they want to cut our wages. How much interest alone would that money earn if it were in the retirement account where it should be? If they are unable to repay us this $ they should at least back off of the 5.6 billion every year they expect us to put into this fund-which they are able to take funds from with no repayment required. What is that about? They already have done just that. Oh, yeah, and we do not receive one cent from taxpayers. The Postal Service is totally self supportive.Would they get away with doing that to any other company which is not supported by taxpayers funds?

  11. I had been curious about the “hidden agendas” of USPS privatization. If FedEx and UPS gives over 50% contributions to the Republican party, well its not hard to figure out. Then, the “mail only votes in Oregon which is predominately Democrat..this fills a portion of the puzzle. Along with the Village Post offices that are hoping to be established in walk through stores such as grocery and major chains, Office Depot, Walmart, etc…do you hold any stock in these companies Mr. Congressman? Postmaster General and USPS execs? .seems there were a lot of republican folks at the round table. With Issa as the ‘spokesperson’ for the group, it appears to be a win- win situation. The victims in this corporate greed and public deception are the postal workers their families and the public. But who really cares about us? It is extremely frustrating defending ourselves AGAINST our elected officials in Government when it is their duty to serve us and protect the interests of this country, not their own self serving agendas. Had this been a situation of reason, not spinning the truth, we would all have to come to terms with it, the USPS is broke and can no longer afford us. Concessions have to be made. Although I agree, a strict budget has to be adhered to, we are actually operating in the red even after ALL the sophistication of modern technology, had it not been for our over payments and the mandated pre-funding. It clearly indicates the USPS is successful and does not need to be eliminated. You want it because it DOES work! Where is the money? My guess is it has been used to contribute to a federal budget, operate other government offices and provide for federal employees outside of USPS and their programs. It would be more simple to dismantle it with lies that rebuild it with truth.

  12. Maybe, instead of demoralizing its workers with stupid management programs designed to improve “efficiency,” the Postal Service should be thinking about how to re-organize its management system so that workers have more say about how the place is run. There’s a lot of brainpower at the Postal Service that is just being ignored because of its management culture and corporate values.
Don’t expect any of these more productive alternatives to end up on the table. Postal management will not be taking serious salary cuts, they’re not going to cut back on out-sourcing, they’re not going to stop consolidating facilities and displacing workers, they’re not going to ask for sacrifices from their corporate partners and big customers, they not going start listening to the people who actually touch the mail, and they’re not going to take the high road and live up to their universal service obligation. They’re going to do what the corporate class always does — screw the workers and the average citizens.

  13. Hey, give me 100 % sick leave that I save and early out so I can use money right away without waiting until 55, then I will take the early out. Just give me the offer, then I will take it. No questions ask!!!

  14. Darryl Issa and the rest of the Republicans who celebrate wealth the good old fashion way, inherit it, or better yet, lie to the American Public about what he really wants to do and get the wealthy to donate to their cause. They want to Supress your ability to make enough to be comfortable. They always think the repair should be burdened by the working class.

I did notice that there dont appear to be any Postal closures in his district. Good for district 49 in California. It might be different if Issa had a clue about how the USPS really operates. Since he doesnt, he comes up with foolish ideas. And if that isnt enough, he abuses his authority by blocking legislation that has 206 cosponsors, and replaces it with his own idea of transformation that has only 1 cosponsor.

California, you need to wake up to this character.

  15. it is obvious that issa and his cronies are attempting to destroy union jobs. There has been a hidden postal tax on users since 1976. Prefunding of health care is a underhanded way to supplement the treasury towards other liabilities. The iraq war, afganistan, and dod liabilities for vets working for the usps. The ruling elite would truely love to slowly undermine all union workers so as to reduce all wages and benefits to a level equal to china, except for managers and ceos.Organized labor is the only threat to the new world order. Just a matter of time till no paid vacation or two days off a week.Children will again be working for reduced wages in a right to work state just to pay for food and medical costs. The only thing that stops the usa from being china is the right to bear arms. Wake up people

  16. The Lame Duck Midred Retirement Plan, as soon as you reach your minimum retirement age be gone. Plain an Simple. LOL.

We so sorry… We love you long time… mcintosh.

Return all FERs to CSRS who’s stupid idea was it to change it?

  17. Thank you Ed Schultz, for letting people know what Issa is all about. the only thing I have a question about, if the pre-funding requirement was voted in by a lame-duck Congress in 2006, why was it not voted out after the 2008 elections? Makes me wonder, who’s side are all these Congressmen and Senators, on? And what fund is all the 42.6 billion dollar pre-fund money in?

  18. HEY MILDRED YOU SOUND LIKE A GRUMPY OLD WOMAN. WE WILL SEE HOW YOU FEEL WHEN YOU ARE OLDER. PROBABLY MANAGEMENT. WHY DON’T WE ADDRESS THE OTHER BIG PROBLEM IN THE POSTAL SERVICE- LAZY PEOPLE WHO DON’T DO SQUAT AND THE SORRY MANAGERS WHO LET THEM!! YEAH MILDRED YOU ARE PROBABLY ONE OF THOSE TOO!!

  19. Mildred sounds like one of the tea baggers who cheered when Troy Davis was executed or perhaps is a Ron Paul devotee who thinks the sick should be allowed to die if they don’t have health insurance. What a sweetheart!

  20. sorry mildred, i hate to burst your bubble on forcing people to retire…it do not earn “easy money”, nor should i have “planned better”. I have been busy paying for my lessened value house, putting kids through college (one in, another one next year..) and watching my TSP tank…yes, i am CSRS, and we don’t get those matching funds, and for many years were limited to only being able to contrubute 5% to the G-fund. My newest car is a 1999. may husband lost his job three years ago, and has been re-employed at a significanyly lower wage, with no retirement.
my many years of service have earned me the right not to be shown the door at the age of 55. i would love to go…i just can’t, nor should i be subjected to age based discrination. If the postal service would like to enact an age-based policy of reirement, it should be stated when you accept employment, not when you are a few years away…..and yes, when i can, i will go, because i do not wish to force someone else out of a job….but you nor anyone else has earned the right to live my life for me….if i had advice to give to the younger people, i’d tell them to start thinking about their next carreer, anyway you slice it, it does not look godd for the future, either…..and oh, yeah, people have been saying that same thing the last 30 years….

  21. Thanks so much Ed for following up on this. Its important that the US Citizens understand whats going on. Thanks again my friend.

  22. Ed speaks the truth, but he left one little thing out. When it comes to downsizing and layoffs and breaking the contract, this is what our own Postmaster General wants too !!

  23. Let’s get it right. The Human beings he is referring to is the old folks who won’t retire that can. They say it’s easy money. Then when function 4 team comes in, they excess the younger people with family to relocate who knows where. So, I agree. Get rid of the people who can retire. Plain and Simple. If you can’t retire, you should have planned better for the future. Let the young people make a living. RETIRE!!!!!

  24. THANK YOU ED FOR STANDING UP FOR US!!!
THIS IS NOTHING MORE THAN A PLANNED AND CONCERTED EFFORT TO DESTROY THE POSTAL SERVICE

  25. Ed, Thank you for standing up the the postal workers and having the back bone to tell it like it is!!! It’s sad the majority of the Republicans can back such an evil bill and sleep at night!!! Our only hope is if Congress doesn’t allow such corruption to continue to infect the minds of good politicians. They just need to televise your show at the next Senate meeting. lol Thanks Again for “keeping it real!”

  26. Thumbs up to Ed Shultz. The first news commentator that I’ve heard who has hit the nail on the head. Good JOB Ed, Thanks for your support for the working class and the postal patrons that will be adversely impacted if “robot lover Issa” has his way. Wake up Congress don’t let our Postal Service be dismantaled due to a few greedy people. Hasn’t America learned her lesson from the results of sitting idly by and reaping the negitive results from a greedy few. A letter carrier welcome for Ed. Hip Hip Hurray, Hip Hip Hurray, Hip Hip Hurray!
