House Oversight Committee Hearing On APWU Contract To Be Shown Online

Testimony about the APWU’s tentative Collective Bargaining Agreement before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will be broadcast live on the Committee’s Web site. APWU President Cliff Guffey will testify, along with Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe, Chairman of the USPS Board of Governors Louis J. Giuliano, and USPS Governor James C. Miller III.

The full committee hearing, “Are Postal Workforce Costs Sustainable?” will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5. Members can watch a live streaming of the hearing at http://oversight.house.gov.

Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) has publicly condemned the recently-negotiated Tentative Agreement between the USPS and the APWU as being too generous to postal workers.

The union president has said the agreement “met the union’s main goals of preserving jobs and lessening the hardships associated with excessing, as well as the Postal Service’s goals of cost reduction and increased workforce flexibility.”
