Mark Acton Elected PRC Vice Chairman

Washington, DC – Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) Chairman Ruth Y. Goldway today announced the election of Mark Acton as Vice Chairman of the Commission, succeeding Tony Hammond. PRC regulations provide that the Commissioners elect a member to serve as Vice Chairman for a term of one year.

“I believe the Postal Service is at a pivotal point in its history, and I look forward to working with my fellow Commissioners, the new Postmaster General and the Congress to steward the agency through its current challenges and put it on a sound footing for the future,” Acton said.

Vice Chairman Acton was appointed Commissioner by President George W. Bush in August 2006. At the time of his appointment, he was serving as Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Postal Rate Commission, where he assisted in managing all aspects of agency operations. Acton brought to the Commission extensive public policy experience – including nine years of managing legislative and regulatory concerns as Staff Director for the Republican National Committee Counsel’s Office. His professional background includes direct mail marketing experience managing Republican Party finance programs.

Acton resides in Washington, DC, and is a native of Louisville, Kentucky where he attended the University of Louisville. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. He is an active member of the University of Louisville Alumni Association, the Kentucky Society of Washington, the United States Tennis Association, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
