How Many Postal Workers Will Consolidations Affect?

The Postal Service’s recent announcement that it has approved 223 mail processing facilities for consolidation has prompted questions about how many employees in the various crafts and areas will be affected. The chart below shows the numbers — based on current complements.

The numbers will change dramatically over time, however, because, on average, approximately 400 employees leave the Postal Service every pay period. As a result, the number of affected employees will vary from the figures below.

  1. I look at it this way…filling out that PS form 1188 will get me the raise that APWU was unable to get me. So screw you and go ahead and call me a scab…a scab that takes home more money than you lock stepping ;lemmings!

  2. The USPS will go ahead with the Consolidations, layoffs ?, RIF?, and who knows what else, because Congress is as incompetent as the Pseudo President, Obama, he is too worried about re-election so as the Congress is also, so what else is new, as the workplace
environment gets to the “Going Postal “point, the inaction of Congress points to a potentially violent end, and the loss of service to the Public.

  3. The world is changing but know one think the USPS need to change. I just look back in the past 30 years a lot of thing have gone, look at how many company is over sea. look at how must mail we get now. Today everything is on the inet. or ceil phone.so why would the USPS be any different. I work 37 years save my money and retire you should thourght about that your self. give the young work a change to work. USPS is a good place to work, it just the one that do not want work that make it baddddddddddddddddd

  4. “APWU members have done a great job of getting the word out to legislators about our concerns: Keep up the good work ,support S-1789”

I wrote ” I work for the U.S.P.S. and I do not oppose S1789 in it’s current form”. This bill offers three types of incentives not to be combined.
    1. Early outs: $5,000 per year/$25,000 max 5 years or more before immediate retirement + 2 years(FERS)1 year (CSRS) with no penalty  for those not eligible for immediate retirement.
    2. 2 years added on to your FERS retirement
    3. 1 years added on to your CSRS retirement.

  5. The politics continue, congress does nothing but blow hot air. The republicans are too busy pontificating about birth control, and dictating social issues. The economy and postal service are just pawns in the power game. Workers get strung along so the politicians can look for ways to exploit the drama for political gain. PMG Donohoe is the worst offender. Guess what the old PMG Potter is doing these days, he is the head of the Wasghington D.C. airport authority, what a joke.

  6. Poor Joe.
    He has nowhere to go.
Thing is, nobody forced him to join the Postal Service.
No one forced me to join either…and I’m as angry about this stuff as Joe is…
but I’m not acting out anger at my Union…I’m calling my Congressman and my Senators about the rotten situation CAUSED BY THE CONGRESS and only FIXABLE BY THE CONGRESS.
“JOE” seems to forget that ALL OF THE EXCLUSIVE UNIONS ARE WORKING TO RESOLVE THE “INCENTIVE” ISSUE…

  7. The Postal Service has cash to pay incentives,  Clearly the USPS is willing to pay incentives immediately that equaled the savings in salaries for the remainder of the fiscal year,   payment would be this summer, incentives in June to convince employees to retire

After you send a message to your representative, make sure you also take a minute to call their office and tell them to vote Yes on H.R. 7!

APWU tells all the doom and gloom, all the other Associations and Unions are in on the early out incentives, so all of the accurate info from APWU has no reference of what they will do for the members, remember the New Contract and take it from there, the APWU will try to exclude it’s members from the Early Retirement Incentives, The National APWU thinks of the National APWU.
