House Schedules Hearing To Examine USPS Plans On Station Closures And Delivery Route Changes

 From House Subcommittee:

The Subcommittee on Federal Workforce, Postal Service, and the District of Columbia will hold an oversight hearing entitled “Making Sense of It All: An Examination of USPS’s Station and Branch Optimization Initiative and Delivery Route Adjustments” on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in room 2154 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

The Postal Service’s recently proposed “Station and Branch Optimization and Consolidation Initiative” is designed to identify and take advantage of increased efficiency by consolidating the operations of some retail stations and branches into nearby postal facilities. In light of this proposal, the upcoming hearing is intended to provide a detailed examination of the proposed initiative to include: the criteria USPS plans to use to guide its decisions; targeted savings; the timeline for implementation; and USPS’s communication efforts with stakeholders. The hearing will also explore related consolidation efforts such as USPS’s approach to delivery route adjustments.

  1. These Closed Door Meetings should focus on providing incentives for employees to leave. This is the ONLY WAY PEOPLE WILL VACATE..ASAP! DOESN’T TAKE A VERY SMART PERSON TO FIGURE THAT OUT? We will NOT LEAVE OUR POSITIONS WITHOUT A MONETARY AWARD….AND THE OIG CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK!

  2. AND , all this time we thot the ol’ USPS operated as a corporation ? ONLY when it doesn’t threaten votes !

  3. We’re still delivering more mail today, than back in 2000,with less carriers. It’s time to stop pushing the carriers for every minute, and do the right thing and cut a ton of headquarters and management jobs.Nuff said.

  4. No Saturday work means fewer paying union Member…. whats a union boss to do?… cuts carrier pay but not union dues I guess

  5. What Postal employees need to remember is it’s about the work not the time off. Without the customer’s access to our services we don’t have a job. Simple as that.

  6. Word is that the big unions are so afraid of going to 5 day delivery they are offering givebacks to stop it. Ten to 15% in pay and other cuts are the most mentioned. Are they crazy? We get to work on Saturday plus get a paycut.

  7. how many stops do they want us to make per day??? do away with sat del and maybe i won’t be going house to house with just an advo
