The quarter one, fiscal year 2011, results for the VOE survey are completed. More than 76,000 employees — 54 percent of those surveyed — responded. Of those who responded to the survey, 64.6 percent replied favorably. The majority of our employees understand the Postal Service’s strategic direction and how their work affects the organization’s success. Seventy-five percent of employees say they are proud to work for the Postal Service. Seventy-nine percent are aware of the security measures in the workplace, and the same percentage believes they have been properly trained to do their jobs.
The quarter two surveys are being mailed out now. Ensure all employees are given the opportunity to confidentially complete our employee engagement survey and return it by February 21. (posted January 27, 2011)

Q1 VOE RESULTS
Results from the quarter 1 Voice of the Employee (VOE) survey are in. Nationally, more than 76,000 employees — 54 percent of those who received surveys — responded.
Each VOE quarterly survey asks employees to express their opinions on eight USPS “dimensions” — strategic direction, trust, growth, communication, diversity and respect, commitment, personal safety, and work effort and quality.
Of those who responded to the survey, 64.6 percent replied favorably to the dimensions, and more than 81 percent say they understand the Postal Service’s strategic direction and how their work affects the organization’s success. Most employees are proud to work for the Postal Service. At least 77 percent say they feel personally responsible for helping USPS succeed as a business and more than half believe USPS promotes diversity of backgrounds, talents and perspectives.
The results are in keeping with the national focus for fiscal year 2011 — to strengthen the VOE dimensions of communications, and diversity and respect.
Each dimension also had several related questions. Employee responses to the questions provided feedback supervisors and managers can use to improve the workplace and the organization as a whole.
“The survey also indicates employees want the results of the VOE survey shared in their work units and that they would like their supervisors to communicate regularly to keep them informed,” said Mangala Gandhi, manager, Selection, Evaluation and Recognition. “We urge supervisors and managers to help meet the needs of our employees in those areas the organization needs to improve to remain viable in the future.
Postmasters League No Longer Support USPS Voice Of Employee Survey
Last week the National League of Postmasters President Charley Mapa sent the following letter to its members:
Dear Leaguers,
Recently your National Board met and decided that the League would no longer support the VOE survey. While the intent behind the survey may be good, the fact of the matter is that the work situation for Postmasters continues to deteriorate.
In so many districts dignity and respect for PMs have ceased to exist. The Postal Service deliberately does not staff in order to pile workhours on to Postmasters. Reports and logs continue to proliferate, thereby stretching a long day into a longer day. Discipline for trivial reasons continues and micromanagement reduces Postmasters to mindless robots.
You may not be suffering personally from any of these situations, but thousands of Postmasters nationwide are. I urge you, in support of Postmasters everywhere, to simply not fill out the survey. This is one report that you are not required to complete.
Please spread the word; the more of us who refuse to participate, the louder our voice of the employee will be.
