USPS Offers $15,000 Early Out Incentive To Mail Handlers

USPS is offering a Voluntary Early Retirement (VER) opportunity to employees represented by the National Postal Mail Handlers Union (NPMHU). In addition, USPS has reached an agreement with the NPMHU to offer a separation incentive to employees the organization represents.

Earlier this month, USPS announced plans to move ahead with a modified plan to consolidate its network of 461 mail processing locations in phases. The first phase of activities will result in up to 140 consolidations through February of 2013.

Details of the VER and incentive plan are available on the Workforce Connection website on LiteBlue. Major provisions include:

All career employees covered by the USPS-NPMHU National Agreement are eligible for the incentive offer, with a few exceptions that are detailed in the Memorandum of Understanding.
The total incentive amount for full-time NPMHU bargaining unit employees is $15,000. Eligible participating NPMHU employees will receive an initial incentive payment of $7,500 on Dec. 21, 2012 (less required deductions and withholdings). The remaining $7,500 will be paid on or about Dec. 20, 2013 (less required deductions and withholdings).

The incentive program is available to eligible employees who notify USPS on or before July 2, 2012 of their intent to participate in the VER, optional retirement, or voluntarily resign and who separate effective Aug. 31, 2012.

Part-time career employees also are eligible for the incentive on a prorated schedule.

Optionally eligible employees may begin the process immediately by using eRetire or by contacting the Human Resources Shared Service Center (HRSSC) at 877-477-3273. VER-eligible employees will receive an offer letter and kit with required documents to initiate the process. Eligible employees selecting resignation also may begin the process immediately by contacting HRSSC. All retirement-eligible employees will receive offer letters and annuity estimates at their mailing address during the week of May 29.Dec. 20, 2013 (less required deductions and withholding.)

  1. I love how everyone blames management for everything. How about you blame the lazy employees who choose to do nothing all day but eat, sleep and read the paper. There’s only a select few who actually work and do what is required of them. And when Management disciplines those who nothing they get their panties in a bunch! How about the ones who are constantly saying “that’s not my job!” Well guess what.. it ain’t now! I’m pretty sure they could remove all management and these lazy workers still wouldn’t get it done. Everyone keeps claiming “a fair days work for a fair days pay.” You do realize we are considered unskilled labor. In any other company machine operators, tops would make $18/hr and power equipment operators $15. All these mail handlers should be thankful for the easy job they have and the fact they are OVER PAID! I mean really… changing a sack, pushing in a box, etc. They talk about how management is over paid but in any other industry, they actually would make more money and don’t have to deal with the daily whining. Majority of the workers come in looking for something to grieve as opposed to doing their job. It’s too bad the union fights for all the wrong reasons. How about you get your “brothers and sisters” to do their jobs at a bare minimum and maybe we wouldn’t be in the predicament we are in. What’s the union motto.. “Work Safely” aka slow down. There’s to slowing down. In any other company half these employees would have been fired a long time ago. Can’t wait til privatization. Then you can really be upset.. but again blame the WORKERS not MANAGEMENT!!

  2. OCCUPY 1300 L STREET NW, WASHINGTON DC! FIND OUT ABOUT YOUR DUES FUNDED APWU OFFICER RETIREMENT PLAN THAT YOU CAN’T USE AND THAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT.

YOU CAN ALSO OCCUPY AT THE AUGUST NATIONAL PIN TRADING CONFERENCE WHERE ALL APWU’S HIERARCHY WILL BE (UNLESS THEY’VE BAILED BEFORE THEN AND TAKEN THEIR GOLDEN PARACHUTE).
WORSE COMES TO WORSE, PUT YOUR DRINK ORDER IN FOR THE HOSPITALITY ROOM AND ATTEND THE “WISH MOE WERE HERE” SPEECHES.

THIS YEAR’S FLOOR CHANT WILL BE “VERA, VERA – LET MY PEOPLE GO!”

  3. As someone who took the 15K back in Sept. 2009 which was split up in two payments as well, 10K first year and 5K second year, all the “know it all`s” claimed that if you held out a bit longer the 25K was “just around the corner”. Well, I`ve been enjoying the “Good LIfe” since Oct of 2009 and the extra 15K was just “Parting Gifts” like you would receive on a Game Show, I was going anyway. 3 years have passed since the last “carrot”. Still waiting for the 25K, if Darrel Issa and his Gay lover Dennis Ross get their way, the USPS will be put into bankruptcy and for a parting gift they will give you a good kick in the ass you morons deserve. The Mass`s are Ass`s, need proof? See how many eligible employees turn it down. Go ahead, just work till you drop and then your “incentive” will be going up the chimney in a crematory. Idiot`s. Mitt Romney is counting on your Vote too!

  4. The union has kept the National in Spring water bottles lavish dinners and parties, take a look at the expenditures, the National LM-3, look at the 6 figure salaries, corrrupt shits, just as bad as management !

This is propaganda from the APWU, more bull, the bottom line for APWU is to keep the dues rolling in, to keep Chuck Zlatski’s job and Cliff “No Balls Guffey”s” jobs intact, these national and large local officers, who forgot what the daily battle on the front lines is like, say like National Business Agents telling you,”Management can do that”, having thier own agenda’s like Chuck who wrote this amazing ? article, instead of pushing for the early retirement,
the APWU is a paper tiger, no teeth, no bite, file the grievance, try the internal union struggles, where union officers pull rank on others and make deals, change things to make their lives easier, and hell for fellow union members and harass non union members ,take this union corruption and add abusive and inept management and a living hell is created for APWU represented craft employees,Privatize and get rid of both of these ( Management and Union) abscesses.

  5. First class mail is dropping because management keeps advancing the standard mail. You want to fix the Post Office then raise the price of standard mail and we wouldn’t be losing money we would be making a profit!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Hey last time I was in the Belgian Congo visiting my parents a guy was selling The NY Times on a street corner. I asked him what was he doing the selling The New York Times here.? He said “Can I help it if they gave me a bad corner?

  7. Well the clerks are all bitching about their UNION and their president. My short memory recalls that the “CLERKS” held a legal election for their “PRESIDENT” also the “CLERKS” union offer that sorry contract to their membership for ratification, and much to my surprise it was. So why blame your president and your union contract for someting you agreed to.
