  1. I don’t know why every body is slamming the republicans? The A-hole dems that voted along with them are the real traitors! You know how the repubs feel about us and they’ll tell you to your face it’s the turn coat dems that are back stabbing us!

  2. Totally correct Jake!!! You are a smart man! We need more of you down here in Oklahoma! We work with several wackos that vote for there kind of idiots! If you bring up the actions of these elected officials they just go silent and get mad. No thought process at all!!!!!!!

  3. AS A 25 YR LETTER CARRIER UP HERE IN N/W PA, I GIVE A BIG MARINE CORP SALUTE TO ALL YOU UNION– LETTER CARRIERS FOR YOUR COUNTLESS HOURS OF WORK AND SUPPORT IN ALL THE GROUND WORK DONE.. WITH-OUT THE BACK-BONE AND FORATUDE OF THIS ORGANIZED UNION, THE AMERICAN CITIZENS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED. AS HISTORY IS IN THE MAKING ., I’AM SO PROUD TO BE A PART OF IT. SEMPER FI!!

  4. Amendment to install special emergency toilet paper dispenser with luminous toilet paper in case there is a blackout. APPROVED.

  5. Most will agree that the Postal Service is still, and can easily continue to be, and important part of the American culture…however change is definately needed. 80 year Gus should not be on the job…most jobs in a P&DC are physical tasks and can not be performed safely by the overwhelming majority of people in their 70s and above. Having employees of that ‘vintage’ is a liability no company needs. That being said, the 20 or 30 year old who can not perform the job should also not be here. There needs to be real accountability for each employee’s ability to perform their job safely and efficiently in all job titles from the custodians all the way up to the PMG. There is no reason that an employee who does not perform their job should need to get a discussion, a letter knocked down to a discussion, a second letter, a week suspension that is never served, a two week suspension, a proposed removal knocked down to a second two week suspension, a removal that is settled to a Last Chance agreement, and a second Last Chance agreement before their job can be replaced. And let’s be honest, Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin…and both are equally worthless. I think the founders of this great country are turning over in their graves looking at what we’ve allowed this government to become.

  6. McCain, Paul, Coburn all three of you are idiots and only care about your self. Each one of you need to go in retirement and isolation and fade away!!!!

  7. It’s totally clear that republicans hate unions and the average working man!!! Thank GOD most of the Republican amendments were defeated as of tuesday.. Sen Collins and Sen Brown, both Republicans but they certainly don’t want the post office to fail.. Kuddos to them for breaking party ranks and doing the right thing!!!!! Lieberman and Sanders, you gentleman have my respect.. But McCain, Paul, Coburn, – go fuck yourselves!!!!!

  8. Agree with all amendments except the 5 day delivery. This is a huge cost savings The biggest problem with this whole fiasco is that Congress is involved. Without their interference the USPS would be in the black. Congress has no clue on how to run any type of business and yet, they are making the decisions. Let the USPS run like any other corporation and they will succeed.
@mark, I work for the USPS and these 80 year old carriers run rings around the lazy non-vet 25 year old slugs that are hired today. There are plenty of other jobs available in the USPS, than letter carrier.
@Dan the Man, thanks. You said it best.
Most negative comments on this thread have no clue. Get a job!

  9. There might be a few retirement eligable’s that can do the job as good as a younger employee. But my experience is picking up a lot of slack from the oldies and taking time away from my family because of them that should have taken care of there finances throughout their career.

  10. When we can force these super rich, old, senile, union busting idiots out of congress then we may consider forcing others to retire. People like Paul Rand, Olympia Snowe and Darrell Issa should be forced out based solely on their hostilities to poor and working class people. 80 year old Guss has a better work ethic, works harder and smarter than 99.9% of these 20 year old, dumb, lazy PSE’s the postal service is hiring.

  11. It’s good to see common sense prevails. Republicans live in a bubble. The PO will bankrupt unless something is done. It would return to the taxpayer Postal Dept. if something is’nt done. The house will put up a big fight, you can count on it.

  12. Mark that 80 year old carrier (how many are there?) was probably a vet too. And this 51 year old worker, runs marathons, has more knowledge, and is in better physical shape than every younger “cheaper” employee the USPS can hire. If hiring cheaper becomes the only criteria for business decisions, then you my friend better get a prime location to park that refrigerator box you’re going to be living in. Changing the pre-funding requirement would have fixed this whole issue. All the other amendments are just more republican opportunistic middle class attacks.

  13. To keep the PMG from forcing the 55 year old worker to retire in order to fill his job with someone at a cheaper level to save money.

  14. Good grief!!!! Why in the world did our senate vote down admentment 2061? I guess 80 year Gus can keep his walking route to age 100 and keep that 25 year old unemployed army vet from taking his position.

    Makes no sense!!!!!!

  15. We need to force the congress to retire when eligible. Amendment 2061. Why won’t this work for congress?

  16. Thank you congress for having the wisdom to vote for issues that support keeping the Postal Service solvent, and guts to defeat issues that would do detriment to workers! Please vote no on eliminatingg bargaining rights, that Ron Paul have introduced! Keep up the good work! Unions have done good things for this country!
