Senate will take up S. 1789 after Easter recess

From the National Association of Letter Carriers:

NALC: Breaking: Senate will take up S. 1789 after Easter recess: Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) announced Monday evening that the Senate would not be taking up consideration of S. 1789, the 21st Century Postal Reform Act, until sometime in mid-April after Congress’ Easter recess. Lieberman is chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and one of the co-sponsors of S. 1789, along with Sens. Tom Carper (D-MA), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Scott Brown (R-MA). “Thank you to the more than 50,000 NALC members who took part in Sunday’s national teleconferences,” NALC President Fredric Rolando said, “and thank you to the thousands of letter carriers and allies who, over the past two days, flooded Senate offices with calls to voice our opposition to this deeply flawed bill. It’s this unparalleled level of commitment that will help us win the fight to preserve the Postal Service for decades to come. We hope that senators will now use this extra time to carefully analyze the Service’s financial problems, so that when the Senate resumes its business after the break, it will be prepared to work on a real reform measure designed to strengthen the agency, not dismantle it.” Click here to find out how you can still contact your senators and urge them to oppose the bill in its current form.

  1. Uhhhh, yeah – that’s the ticket…after recess…yeah…sounds good. After recess we’ll table it till after summer recess…that’s the ticket. Then we’ll hold off and make it an election campaign issue in november…yeah, that’s the ticket. Ain’t politics swell? Makes no difference democrat or republican…when are the voting citizens of this country going to wake up and realize it’s the same ole thang? I’ll Vote for Ralph Nader this time! Gotta do what you gotta do when you’re fed up with the same ole thang! ENUFISENUF!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I support this bill S. 1789 and i am a retired letter carrier . I support it because they have an amendment to the bill that would not force retirees into medicare A & B & D.

  3. Congress…the ENTIRE MONTH OF AUGUST OFF. All holidays, Christmas break, plenty of travel perks, Easter recess ( I think only 2 weeks off for that one ) and let’s not forget having a staff of up to 12, with pay up to 120 grand! And the unaccountability of even being able to “hire” some of your relatives to fill these positions, I certainly hope their pay isn’t frozen, and teir retirement benifits arent cut! KEEP UP THE GREAT “work”(?) congess. You should ALL be very proud of yourselfs!

  4. Its the fault of the unions. By supporting the Socialist Democrats election after election, you caused what is going on in this country. You and the unions opened it up for the Republicans and the Tea Party to get in and decimate the working people of this country. Don’t give to COLCPE! I gave to COLCPE for 8 yrs. When the healthcare bill was passed and supported by the unions against the wishes of the people I cut COLCPE OFF! They will just continue to give money to the people who will screw this country. Remember the president was supported by the unions and now he is stabbing us in the back with 5 day delivery.

  5. Why don’t we just wait till Christmas, by then there be nobody left to worry about, all the plants should be about relocated along with everyone working in them you freaking bunch of morons!

  6. Congress and even balance their own budget. I was under the impression that leaders made decisions?????

  7. Now, ………is congress saying they will work on the bill after this Easter.

    Or.
    Next Easter.
Or the Easter after the Next????????????

  8. sunshine only [no rain] on my parade as usual. vers and incentives are still pipe dreams. s 1789 is a flawed plan and will never be accepted as far as carriers are concerned. we are still looking for ”actors” to fill the bill before we have SHOWTIME. always sunny in mass

  9. The WORST problem is that the Postal Service is being run by former letter carriers. What does a letter carrier know beyond putting a letter into the right mailbox and 70% can’t even do that!

  10. hey Vern Vera, you and Rolando make me sick! you union money wasters are holding up fair and bipartisan legislation for needed postal reform. you’re screwing the CSRS carriers out of incentive buyouts by delaying any chance for a vote from these clowns in Washington D.C. Rolando needs to be re-called or fired and you and your union thug morons need to shut up! the country doesn’t care about 6 day delivery! are you and Rolander that stupid?

  12. After it is too late, the Congress will come to rescue, see Senate has big mouths, but the House has the way, and USPS is going to be changed, the VERA can be offered any way, 1789 was opposed for other things and the incentives were so so average except for years added, 1 -2, wow !, just go ahead and offer something, whatever the Unions oppose, offer that.

  13. Typical lack of urgency on behalf of Congress…in other words as we used to say about the lazy mailhandlers at our facililty…..”you’re doing so little that you’re taking a break from a break”…..LOL

  14. The Senate doesn’t want to deal with this situation (election year) everything they are doing is just a “show” watch Donahue start swinging the wrecking ball.

  15. Is this what they call “Urgent”? Looks like Donahoe will have his way. Or better yet, Issa.

  16. Maybe they can squeeze more time…..perhaps after May15th when there is nothing left!? I smell a Rat.
