NALC: Flawed Postal Reform Bill Headed to Senate Floor Next Week

From the National Association of Letter Carriers:

Flawed Senate bill on the move: An amended version of S. 1789 – which the NALC has not yet seen – appears headed to the floor of the Senate next week. Based on what little we know right now, the expectation is that the amendments still do not go far enough toward addressing the major problems we have with this deeply flawed legislation.

From the Hill:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who has called the postal legislation a priority in recent weeks, filed for cloture on Thursday, setting up a Monday vote on the bill from Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Scott Brown (R-Mass.).

Carper said Thursday that he welcomed Reid’s decision to move the bill to the floor, and said that Congress had to move fast to help an agency that has lost billions of dollars in recent years.

  1. An amended version of a postal bill (S. 1789) is tentatively scheduled for a vote during the week of March 26, and could be brought to the Senate floor as early as Monday, APWU Legislative and Political Director Myke Reid is reporting.

The APWU is asking union members to be vigilante and to check the APWU Web site frequently for updates. “The situation could change very rapidly, so it is important that union members remain alert,” Reid said. “We may need to respond to an announcement quickly.”

The APWU was sharply critical of the original bill, and supports the now amended S.1789, to set strict service standards; allow the USPS to recover overpayments the Postal Service made to its retiree pension funds; adequately address the requirement that forces the USPS to pre-fund future retiree health benefits, and offer APWU members lucrative Early Retirement Incentives, to alleviate the excessing and reassignments our members are suffering through.

  2. (ben) your soooooo full of $hit, but i will agree on what you $hit out about? in the Post Office there is no accountability in postal managers/postal supervisors.

And your dream of “new jobs will be asset to outside companies for half the wages”.

They are (the PO) trying to get over as we type. look at whats Stated in the Federal Times>

“As a matter of policy, USPS officials don’t publicly discuss labor negotiations. By the NRLCA’s telling, however, the Postal Service attempted to persuade the panel that its financial condition “requires dramatic actions to curb or reduce wages, COLA allowances, paid leave, health and other benefits that rural letter carriers and this union have worked hard to achieve.”

My thoughts and prayers go out to you though… How does that special prayer go?

    Dear Satan……..

  3. I see those carriers working when I am on my way to cash my welfare check. Sure I am young and healthy, but why work? I am a rethuglican’t with my wlefare money stashed off-shore like my leader Willard “Mutt” Romney.
I collect my SSI, food stamps, housing allowance, medicare….But I HATE SOCIALISM!!!!

  5. Want to fix the postal system, then get rid of the Unions that protect those that don’t want to work. The union wants Saturday delivery to keep more job, only to collect dues.

The Union fight to keep jobs for workers that take two hour breaks a day. Refuse to do jobs they don’t feel like and call in sick so much that they have to take lwop.

The Union doesn’t care about the workers. Keep the Union and we’ll end up like GMC. They’ll allow the Government to take over. The new jobs will be asset to outside companies for half the wages.

Since, the Union has entered the Post Office there is no accountability.

  6. I would imagine at least 1/6th of the carrier force would find fault with eliminating Saturday delivery. Of course those senior carriers who think about their own best interests, could not understand Fred’s desire to protect a large number of our fellow carriers.

  7. Have you guys thought about bringing back Disco? With this bill?

I mean if a deeply flawed $hit of Postal Reform Bill is headed to the Senate floor next week for what little they know and is not going far enough toward addressing the major problems to help an agency that has lost billions of dollars in recent years.

Move the bill to the floor of studio 54, you know? like how you add on that $hit about Federals employees paying move and getting less in that slick transportaion bill… you know? that crap you always slide in under the table to pass along?Thats going fuck somebody.

Issa knows what im talking about?

You know Im working on a song just for him, its not finished yet but here it goes…Issa! asshole! is that you? Everytime i see you? you up to something new.

Maybe try an work in some of Ben Grims words of wisdom into the song? Pull your head out and get in touch with your membership.

A deeply flawed legislation song? Yes!!! is that you? Everytime i see you? you up to something new.

  8. Its the fault of the unions. By supporting the Socialist Democrats election after election, you caused what is going on in this country. You and the unions opened it up for the Republicans and the Tea Party to get in and decimate the working people of this country. Don’t give to COLCPE! I gave to COLCPE for 8 yrs. When the healthcare bill was passed and supported by the unions against the wishes of the people I cut COLCPE OFF! They will just continue to give money to the people who will screw this country. Remember the president was supported by the unions and now he is stabbing us in the back with 5 day delivery.

  9. Why is it “deeply flawed”. Fred? Because it does away with your precious Saturday delivery, which should have been eliminated years ago? Pull your head out and get in touch with your membership.
