NALC: Senate Will Not Consider Postal Bill Next Week

Dear Supporter,

Thanks to you and your brothers and sisters across the country, S. 1789 will not be brought to the Senate floor next week. We were successful in delaying a floor vote on S. 1789 because letter carriers called their senators and urged them to oppose the bill in its current form.

S. 1789 is still on the docket, though, and it might be brought up in the near future. Therefore, it is imperative that you continue to check your e-mail and the NALC website for the most up-to-date information regarding further action on S. 1789.

The NALC is continuing to work with Senate leadership and our allies in the Senate to reform the bill before the Senate considers it for passage.

This week, you did your part to protect the future of the United States Postal Service and, when I call on you again, I know you will take action to keep the pressure on the Senate to do the right thing.

Thank you for your continued efforts.

In Solidarity,

Fredric V. Rolando, President
National Association of Letter Carriers

  1. You know I am ready to go just like most of you. But there are more of us that cannot afford to take a huge penalty to leave on a VERA. And many more who have many more years to work. STOP BEING SO DAMN SELFISH AND THINKING ONLY OF YOURSELVES. The unions are fighting to save jobs and benefits. If you hate the job and your life so much than just quit or better yet, put yourself out of your and our misery. I can live without you.

  2. We will not be silenced by the lemmings and so-called leaders of this union that are happy with the apathetic status quo and more intent on taking our dues money while maintaining their lifestyles and retirements that neither you or I can enjoy !

OCCUPY APWU at the 2012 Convention in Los Angeles (August 20-24) at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel (404 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA) OTHERWISE: Shut up and keeping paying dem dues!

The union pawns (whether websites or the like) will try to censor speech such as this but the masses are angry and willing to occupy as needed !

  3. DITTO JOHN DELOREAN AND FLORIDA POSTAL WORKER. I WANT OUT!! WE WILL NEVER GET EARLY OUT NOW!! JUST MORE DELAYS AND B.S.ING AROUND!! THIS LEGISLATION IS THE BEST OF ALL PROPOSED!! YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE!! THE LONGER WE WAIT, THE MORE WE LOSE!! FOR EXAMPLE, H.R. 3813 PRESENTLY IN CONGRESS WILL TAKE AWAY ABOUT HALF OF ALL FERS RETIREMENT BEGINNING IN 2013!! I WANT OUT BEFORE THIS B.S. BILL PASSES,AS I AM UNDER FERS!! ALL US UNDER FERS COULD THEN NOT AFFORD TO GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO MORE DELAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE ARE A SINKING SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GET THE F*** OUT OF THE WAY OF MY EARLY OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Hey Rolando! It was your Union who first brought in the two tier wage system with the TE’s. Now you want to screw up what could be a windfall for retirement qualified workers! Its all coming down! including your power!

  5. Rolando – where were you this whole time – thanks for giving Congress another reason to delay any decisions. Ditto to comment by joewatusi

  6. NALC leadership seems mostly concerned with maintaining the unions bloated bureaucracy. 5 day would decrease dues payers and perhaps lead to less union “executives” at HQ and locals.

  7. Wow Leo, what a large dark whole you have your head buried in. I suspect it is your rear end. Who in their right mind thinks that the Post Office would pay you what they pay you, give you the benefits that they give you (including the TSP you want to put your reclaimed union dues into), and protections against unjust actions, sick and annual leave, holiday pay, health plans, retirement plans, life insurance….just because they LIKE you??? You deserve to lose all of those benefits, get PSE pay and health insurance after a year of employment (if they like you and decide to let you come back), guarantee you 2 hours of work a day (when they decide to call you in). Because you don’t NEED a union to fight for you to make a better living and have better benefits!
The union isn’t perfect but it has worked to improve the life of ALL CAREER employees, even the scabs who don’t deserve it or appreciate it!
Thank you to all of the unions protecting our rights!!!!!

  8. Yes, Leo, you should be able to bargain separately with the other scabs. I wish all of you every dime you manage to scrape from management without the ability to go to arbitration. When you have the same benefits as the TE’s, then I will be satisfied.

  9. Dear Fred,
Would you mind if we also keep the pressure on you to fix Regent, I mean region 12? Seriously, is this one of your best? If so, it doesn’t say much as to where you’re going to take this union.

  10. Door to door delivery. Make $28 per hour plus bennies to walk a trashy neighborhood putting one piece of junk mail into people’s mail slot. Put the boxes on the street.

  11. I THINK THESE UNION PEOPLE THAT WRITE THESE COMMENTS Should WAKE UP I HAVE BEEN A LETTERCARRIER FOR A LONG TIME 37 YEARS IN THE GOVERNMENT WHERE WOULD WE BE WITH OUT THE UNION WAKE UP YOUNAY SAYERS …… THANK YOU FOR FIGHTING FOR OUR JOBS ALLL YOU UNION PEOPLE.

  12. I THINK THESE UNION PEOPLE THAT WRITE THESE COMMENTS SOOULD WAKE UP I HAVE BEEN A LETTERCARRIER FOR A LONG TIME 37 YEARS IN THE GOVERNMENT WHERE WOULD WE BE WITH OUT THE UNION WAKE UP YOUNAY SAYERS …… THANK YOU FOR FIGHTING FOR OUR JOBS ALLL YOU UNION PEOPLE.

  13. This was a good bill!!! Stop door to door delivery??? What, in your wildest dreams, Mr Rolando, makes you remotely think this is a bad thing. Should have been done years ago, It is time to suck it up and actually think of the PO and not sucking the system! Time to call our Senators and beg them to present 1789 to the floor for vote, NOW !

  14. The whole thing is sad, depriving workers of a decent salary and job security
And the promise of a secure retirement, treating communities as so lnsiignificant
They don’t even deserve a Post Office, transferring Historic Public buildings to privite
Profits, putting the interests of the wealthy corporate elite above those of the country.
Its more than sad,its a crime. It won’t be good if the nations lawmakers perit
It it to happened. Quote /Unquote.

  15. Ditto the above, did they ever ask us what WE thought would be good for us and the USPS? Most of the provisions of that bill SHOULD be passed. Can anyone save us from these morons, on BOTH sides?

  16. Down with unions! Let’s align ourselves with countries like China, Iran, N. Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, ect……..where it is illegal to even talk about forming a union.

  17. Why continue to throw dues money at the incompetent boobs in any union? They are as out of touch with the worker on the floor and the carrier on the street as our bloated federal government. They have aligned themselves with the very establishment they were created to be a watchdog over. The only way to stir them from their lithargic state is to strip their “entitlement” from them. I urge, unashamedly, every union member, 20 days from your dues anniversary date, send the appropriate form to headquarters, Form 1186 for APWU, Form 1188 for NALC. Freedoms in this country are being eroded very quickly. But, if you disagree with the unions failure to represent it’s members, you can quit paying the twits . Please don’t go against your conscience. If you think they are representative of your beliefs, by all means, keep sending you hard earned dues in. I, for one of many, have just fired the clowns. My $28.08 dues every pay period is now going to the TSP. Thank you for the forum to voice our concerns, thank GOD for the freedom of speech, while it still is a freedom.

  18. Biggest problem with s1789 is not addressing the pre-funding and overfunding of pensions.Bill is also calling for phasing out door to door deliveries customers like to keep and ending saturday deliveries at expense of city carriers jobs.

  19. Rolando you Cuban defect, many of us want to get out, I hope you die an ugly long death, may you be killed in the most gruesome manor, by disgruntled Carriers !

  20. what was the issue with this bill? i thought that this was the more positive of all pending postal legislation? issa’s bill in the house is a disaster. if we wait until next year to enact postal reform, we may have a republican senate and house to contend with. the republicans, for the most part are anti union anti labor and anti post office. if we need change, let’s do it now. thanks.
