PMG To Customers: “We’re Here To Stay”

PMG Reassures Customers

PMG Pat Donahoe today is sending a message of reassurance to USPS customers, telling them the Postal Service is “here to stay” and that he has a plan to lead USPS to profitability and long-term growth.

In a video posted internally as well as on USPS public-facing websites, Donahoe brings customers up-to-date on steps the Postal Service is taking on the legislative, network optimization and wages and benefits fronts. The PMG notes Congress must resolve issues associated with pre-funding of the Retiree Health Benefits Trust Fund. He also continues to urge Congress to allow USPS to move from a six-day delivery schedule to five days per week.

The PMG says USPS continues to support congressional approval of a proposal to let the Postal Service manage its own health care plan — a step he notes could save as much as $700 million annually.

Donahoe also discusses the Postal Service’s network optimization strategy, including a reduction in processing facilities and resulting changes in service standards. On the retail front, he reaffirms USPS is studying whether to close up to 3,700 retail facilities and that the organization continues to consolidate delivery routes.

Donahoe says, if fully implemented, the Postal Service’s plan could lead to up to $20 billion in savings over the next three years and restore profitability by 2013. “I can assure you we’ll come out of these changes in much better shape from a financial standpoint,” Donahoe says.

“The key thing is that we hear from you with other ideas to make sure that, together, we do this the right way,” concludes the PMG. “Thanks for your business, thanks for your trust and stay in touch.”

  1. It sounds like they want us to go like sheep to the slaughter and do what is good for the Postal Service even if it means moving 100 miles away or not having a job.

Throughout history people have done nothing and it has made history worse with people having harder lives and dying because not enough people spoke out or stood up for those who were not strong.

I say if we are going to go down we should go down trying even though we are going to get pushed off the cliff.

  2. Congress Here’s a little tune for you and them Postal HQ folks, with no clue or IQ.

  3. Sounds like Congress AND the Post Office march to their own drums out to destroy everything they touch. Great JOB assholes!

“It seems crass and callous even to mention miniscule cost savings when the future of a community icon is at stake, but that’s the Postal Service for you. The American people own a vast network of brick-and-mortar post offices that has taken over two centuries to build, and more than two thousand of our post offices are historic architectural treasures. But the executives of the Postal Service seem to think that this legacy belongs to them, and they act as if they can do whatever they want with it. They are disposing of these buildings as fast as possible, selling them to the highest bidder, with no regard for communities, history, art, or the country. It’s really amazing that the people entrusted with our post offices care so little for them.”

  4. USPS here to stay delivering advertising mail and parcels. This their core market.
dEMAND FOR usps SERVICES AND PRODUCTS HAS DECLINED TO THE POINT EVERY QUARTERS FINANCIAL REPORT IS A LOSS IN THE MILLIONS –=$$. USPS here to stay; if this is a true statement operations in every capacity must be reduced. Closing offices that changing demographics now create duplicate service must consolidated. Volume has declined to the point that routes are being elinated by adding deliveries to other routes. Sat. mail delivery to physical street addresses is a wasted cost as no one has any concern or need for this costly service as personal communication and business is conducted by texting, cell phones, tablets and the Internet which is instant and not require a postage stamp and a 1-2 day delivery time to a physical street address.
292,000+++vehicles and delivery personnel operating on Sat. is a wasted cost that cannot be recovered. Cost effective operations are essential; carriers leave late due to mail arriving from a processing offices at different times daily which results in overtime. Districts operations managers must be held accountable to meet deadlines in scheduling to avoid late receipt at delivery office.
Routes deliver after dark; a real concern as mail is in box next day.

  5. 1) Offer early out $50k+5 years services to those 55-60 years old employee.
    2) Downsize and reduce paid to the management 50%.
    3) Send those grandpa and grandma to run automation machine.
    4) Hire many many casual employee with cheap paid.
    5) If none of the above solutions can’t save USPS, then privatization.
    6) lol…………………………….

  6. “see what comes out of Congress by November 18th, the new deadline for USPS to make its $5.5 billion payment. The administration will not back USPS’ proposal to alter labor contract provisions that prohibit layoffs, however. Officials on Monday expressed support for continued use of buyouts and early retirement offers, which they said could be funded in part with the FERS refund”

Truepatriot, “The administration will not back USPS’ proposal to alter labor contract provisions that prohibit layoffs,”

“Officials on Monday expressed support for continued use of buyouts and early retirement offers, which they said could be funded in part with the FERS refund”

Truepatriot, looks like the ball is managements court? The better the buyouts and retirement they offer? More people likely will retire?

Back in the mid/late 80’s i think there was a $20K buyout. Now it’s 2011 an $20K really doesnt go far. I heard they can go up to $25K?

Some will take it, but if your a CSRS employee 55 with 30 years of service who could put in another 11 years an 11 month at 2% a year, which comes to about 24% more, throw in some sick time after its all said and done? your looking at what $800 more a month? Maybe more? Which would cover your health cost your life insurance cost that 50% thing for your spouse cost? Wouldnt you go for the 41 yrs 11 months?

Were sorry Regan screwed everybody into FER’s its not our fault.

Back in the day when we all started that was and is are retirement.

    To the 50k! Bwahahahahaahahahahaaahahahaha poster?

    Your right…. Bwahahahahaahahahahaaahahahaha.

Truepatriot you do what you want and will do what we want, now that sounds fair to me.

Re-cap? “The administration will not back USPS’ proposal to alter labor contract provisions that prohibit layoffs,”

Try back in 2015 will all be a little older a little wiser…and a little richer.

  7. You dummies ratified this terrible contract, now you getPSE’s and 30 hour work weeks coming soon. As far as eliminating SAT delivery no way! That’s the day most people are home to recieve meds and parcels. That’s what makes us different, Donahoe is a retard, he has no clue, he should resign and let someone who knows what he’s doing fix this. If SAT goes, then the end will be near after this contract, unless you will still work for about 40% less pay and raises in healthcare costs. I am not giving anything back to these SOB’s, so come and get me! I will stay till this contract is over!

  8. Q: How many HC data base people does it take to change a light bulb?

    A: Three:

One to write the light bulb removal program
    ,
one to write the light bulb insertion program, and

one to act as a light bulb administrator to make sure nobody else tries to change the light bulb at the same time.

In other words network optimization strategy experts start from the top down not the bottom.

  9. Were 24/7 around the clock/calender.

“The service gave you what it promised ;employment until you reached the age when you have to make room for your carrier brethren with young families.”

TRUEIDIOT ITS 41 years and 11 months and some of us plan on just that? Unless you want to go for 80/50 plan. Bwahahahahaahahahahaaahahahaha.

  10. I love getting up on my off day and starting it off with my kids. Getting them ready for school making them breakfast, dropping them off at school and then having the rest of the day to myself. I can go to the mall which is empty early on weekdays and then catch an early show at the movie theater for discounted early price. Believe me I love having a weekday off, but my company that provides for me and my children and allows us to live at least a lower middle class lifestyle needs me to sacrifice. And before I give up any of my wages or benefits I will support my employer on logical business practice. I refuse to sacrifice the wages of hundreds of thousands to save people who were told from the start they could be laid off at any moment before their six year anniversary. It is clear as day in our contract. When I got hired this point was reiterated and I kept clear of purchasing any car or home until I was “really” working for the postal service and had reached the no lay off anniversary date. Your beef should be with the fiscally irresponsible senior carriers that have refused to leave. Talking about buy outs, you have to be joking. The service gave you what it promised ;employment until you reached the age when you have to make room for your carrier brethren with young families. There are six at my station in their sixties all with 30 years plus of service. These jerks practically live here, hang out way after e.t and come by to visit during vacation and off days. They have no life whatsoever outside the post office. You tell me it would be fiscally and morally correct to remove young strong men and women with young children under their roofs, so that these clowns can play mail man until they die. They are ignorant, with no aspirations to travel, socialize with their communities, spend time with their families before they croak. You tell me should we shave off the top or the bottom? Thank god I’m right above the middle with perfect attendance and my last write up was seventeen years ago. I see myself as untouchable, because I follow instructions as much as I might bitch about them I do what I am paid to due. My rants here are because our union is fathoming the notion of seriously reducing our pay in order to not lay off anyone. All these mummy carriers will be the first to run out when we average $40,000 in pay again, because that is what a twenty percent reduction in pay means for all those that cant do the math. How many of you will still be able to pay your homes and feed your children with that pay? We must surrender Saturdays and then work from within for other cost cutting measures. Please do not full yourselves into thinking the union is looking out for the majority, they only care about the dues and the sweet, sweet, sweet perks these provide for them. I am not a scab I pay my dues for the sole fact that a union is provided, as worthless as it is. As far as loosing the monopoly that will happen when we are pushed to next September and we have doubled our debt leaving the public a choice between giving us a bailout paid by taxpayers in the billions or selling the store. In a day of anthrax scares, mail bombs and other dangerous occurrences associated with the mail it is unlikely anyone wants to seriously be responsible for any of these in the private sector. We currently have a monopoly on a dying commodity, the best we can hope for is to find a way to break even without breaking our meager purses any further.

  11. True Patriot sounds like a very one way kind of carrier, think of all the companies that depend on Saturday delivery. Then think about all the people that would lose their jobs. Is all that worth your getting week ends off? Why would you want to open the door to other companies delivering on Saturdays? Also this could lead to losing the monopoly on the inside of the mail box, maybe even losing your job TP. You have a very narrow view in my opinion. I wonder if your a scab? Sounds like it.

  12. The PMG says USPS continues to support congressional approval of a proposal to let the Postal Service manage its own health care plan — a step he notes could save as much as $700 million annually.

These same people are the same ones screwing everybody and everything up.

So lets screw it some more. Fire the PMG along with half of management.

Starting from where the buck stops here and work your way down.

  13. “Let’s begin enforcing federal retirement for anyone that is 55 years of age and 30 years in the business.”

After you give 80% & $50K to the ones that are already on the rolls to retire. You can.

    If not go F yourself.

  14. Five day delivery now! Customers have already spoken as a majority in favor and with a joint it’s about time sentiment. We are unnecessarily over staffed nationwide only because of the constraints in outdated delivery methods including delivery on a day in which most businesses don’t do business. Eliminate Saturday delivery and all time wasting and hazardous delivery points nationwide. Let’s get these mail boxes on the curve and away from dogs, icy steps, and other unnecessary hazards. Stop catering to the few I can’t go outside for my mail hermits at a cost of billions a year. After you’ve done this I will gladly and realistically be able to pick up more blocks added to my route without killing myself and taking off less due to the fact that even though I now have more work, I also have less wear and Tear on my body. Let’s begin enforcing federal retirement for anyone that is 55 years of age and 30 years in the business. Enough of the I did my hump time and now I am going to cruise on by mentality. Equal work for equal pay. Let’s start having union stewards and officers carry their routes a minimum if one week per month, since it seems that they have lost all touch with a carriers realities. Let them lead us by the everything goes on the side sentiment they have allowed to take place. They claim that this creates otherwise non existent overtime for us, but forget to take into account that some if not most of us just want to do our routes in eight hours and go home. Our locally elected officer carries his route once per year and went from a Honda to a Mercedes, gained 100lbs and comes in giving real carriers hell for not taking everything on the side and the overtime this method creates. GTFO people like this moron are the thorn in our company’s side. They have not fought the fight against multiple cripple bundles because they do not have to deal with them.
