Congressman Cummings To Support “Save Our Americas Postal Service” Rally On 9/27/11

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, will deliver remarks at two community events tomorrow (TUESDAY) to encourage Congress to consider his comprehensive legislation, providing the U.S. Postal Service with the necessary latitude to make innovative structural changes to enable it to continue to deliver for decades to come.

The first event will be a press conference at noon, supporting the National Day of Action to Save America’s Postal Service. That press conference will feature Representatives Cummings, Dutch Ruppersberger and John Sarbanes, along with representatives of several postal worker organizations. The event will be held at the Baltimore Teachers’ Union.

Later that day, Cummings will deliver remarks at a rally sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers, held at his office in Catonsville at 4:30 p.m.

At both events, Rep. Cummings will address H.R. 2967, the Innovate to Deliver Act of 2011, which he introduced with Congressman Stephen Lynch, to address the Postal Service’s current financial challenges. The bill implements reforms in three core areas: profitability, personnel, and performance. The bill includes provisions to allow the Postal Service to function more like a business and reduce the restrictions that have hindered its ability to respond effectively to a changing market.

“Our legislation will fundamentally change the Postal Service’s business model so it can thrive in a changing marketplace,” Cummings said. “Unlike other proposals that merely slash services, personnel, and facilities, our bill allows the Postal Service to return to profitability while honoring commitments to workers and preserving quality service.”

  1. You can sure tell who’s management and who’s not!! Egotistical Bastards is what’s wrong with the USPS, always playing games with employees lives?? Everyone in the P.O. is pretty dysfunctioal, I’ve observed this for 32yrs, when will we ever learn??

  2. @Mike, are you an idiot? It’s unscathed, not unscaved. You are either a union steward of one of the slugs that needs a steward all the time. Postal management isn’t the problem, the labor contracts that protect the union slugs are the problem. As far as the politicians go, they might have put the USPS in the financial position we are in with the pre-funding, but they aren’t the ones that are parked under a tree or drinking in a bar while on the clock getting paid overtime. It’s time for America to wake up, we don’t need union employees, getting overpaid to sort or deliver the mail. We need workers that want to work, not employees that feel an entitlement to a government welfare system called the United States Postal Service.

  3. THIS ISSA,!!!!!! IS FULL OF CRAP. YOU KNOW AS A 39 YEARS OF POSTAL SERVICE WOMEN !! HOW CAN HE , SAY, WE DONT NEED YOU. TO RETIRE ??? DO YOU KNOW WE ARE THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, THE ONES WHO STILL LOVE OUR JOB WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. BECOUSE OF AGE?? NOW !!! YOU CAN PUT ME ON THE WORK FLOOR, WITH THIS LOW CLASS, AND LETS SEE WHO GETS THE WORK DONE BETTER, HIM OR ME, I CHALLENGE HIM TO RUN A POSTAL STATION BY HIMSELF, TAKE CARE OF THE TRUCK, GET THE GPC’S OUT, OR CANVAS , DO THE PARCELS, TAKE CARE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND DO WINDOW, SOMETIMES NO BREAKS, AND CFS. AND ALSO DISTRUBUTION. SO DONT TELL US THE 37 YEARS THAT YOU DONT NEED US, A LACK OF RESPECT,OUR LOYAITY, MY ENTIRE LIFE, DEDICATED TO MY JOB. AND THIS IS HOW WE GET TREATED BY YOU PEOPLE. YOU ARE DISCUSTING.

  4. There has to be representatives that have more common sense that Rep. Senator Issa. I could not believe what I heard while he was being interviewed by Joe Scarborough on MSNBC – Morning Joe. Issa said “any postal worker that can retire – should, because they are no longer needed”. As a postal worker, of 37 years, I am appalled. How dare he!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Cummings and Lynch make sense!Ross and Issa are dopes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ross and Issa are now thanking all the Postal employees and retirees that voted for them!!!!
