Valley Falls residents plan rally to protest shutdown of post office

Reader: Valley Falls, Rhode Island residents not happy about USPS closing their post office

CUMBERLAND – Derrick Watson, who has emerged as the leader of residents opposed to closing the Valley Falls post office, has filed his formal appeal with the Postal Regulatory Commission.

Additionally, he and others plan a rally for this Tuesday, May 31, 10 a.m. to noon, in front of the post office at 197 Broad St.

Picketers will be protesting the planned July 8 shutdown of this branch by the United States Postal Service.

Plans to close the long-time branch have drawn pages of signatures on a petition opposing the plan and objection from Mayor Daniel McKee, who said in a statement that the closing would “contribute further economic hardship and deterioration of the neighborhood” of Valley Falls.
