Dennis Ross Led House Subcommittee Is Confused on USPS Financial Loss Numbers

The House Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce, U.S. Postal Service, and Labor Policy lead by Congressman Dennis Ross (R-FL) issued a news release citing the wrong financial figures for USPS. USPS announced a $2.2 billion net loss– the Ross led subcommittee said it was $2.6 billion. But what harm is a $400,000,000 difference from a committee looking to get USPS  back on financial stability?

WASHINGTON– Four major mailing industry representatives will testify tomorrow morning to the postal service subcommittee of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on challenges facing that industry. Yesterday the United States Postal Service announced that it lost $2.6 billion in the three months ending March 31.

Actually USPS announced a $2.2 billion net loss for FY second quarter.

The U.S. Postal Service ended the second quarter of this fiscal year (Jan. 1 – March 31, 2011) with a net loss of $2.2 billion, compared to a net loss of $1.6 billion for the same period in FY 2010.

The subcommittee is not the ‘postal service subcommittee’ of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee but rather the House  “Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce, U.S. Postal Service, and Labor Policy” Chairman Dennis Ross, R-Fla.

Issa House Oversight Committee

Here is the news release:

WASHINGTON– Four major mailing industry representatives will testify tomorrow morning to the postal service subcommittee of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on challenges facing that industry. Yesterday the United States Postal Service announced that it lost $2.6 billion in the three months ending March 31.

Although USPS is the single largest employer in the mailing sector, it represents only 8.3 % of total industry jobs. As of 2009, the mailing industry included an estimated 8.7 million domestic jobs, with employees in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. These firms generate almost 90 % of all United States Postal Service mail volume.

The subcommittee will review the changes the mailing industry has undergone with an eye towards the future of the industry and its impact on USPS. Without significant cost-saving reforms, on September 30, 2011, USPS will not be able to meet its existing financial obligations.

  1. Did I get those numbers out to Ross in the correct manner? John, Where are you? I’m in deep shit here.

  2. Congressman Ross is another of the SEMI-LITERATE, TEA BAG REPUBLICANS that the seriously confused Florida electorate sent to the House of Representatives last November.
This man has openly confessed to being unfamiliar with Postal issues and the Postal Service itself….and this moron is the LEADER of the GOP effort to PRIVATIZE THE USPS and to end collective bargaining for Federal and Postal Employees.

These people are in hot pursuit of lowering the WAGES AND BENEFITS of ALL AMERICAN WORKERS in order to support THE CONSERVATIVE AGENDA of “making the American Worker more COMPETITIVE IN THE WORLD MARKETPLACE” and the only way to do this is to take as much away from the wages and benefits of American working men and women that they can, and doing it as quickly as possible to MAXIMIZE AMERICAN CORPORATE PROFIT.

This is a NATIONWIDE REPUBLICAN AGENDA and it can be seen ALL OVER AMERICA….the most PUBLIC DISPLAY have been in Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois with the efforts of their Governors to LEGISLATE WORKER RIGHTS AWAY.

This is what these people DO.
This is what they think and are about.
They are RELENTLESS AND REMARKABLY COLD HEARTED….
AND REMARKABLY LOYAL TO THEIR CORPORATE MASTERS
    AND SPONSORS.

  3. All I can say is WOW!! Remember when your grade school teacher told you math would be important some day. The day has come.

The difference between 2.6 billion and 2.2 billion is 400 MILLION, not 400 THOUSAND!!!!!!!!!!

  4. For Ross attacking anything is easier than having to think about it. The biggest problem the country faces is Congress.

  5. Still confused on the numbers. 2.6 billion – 2.2 billion is a four hundred thousand dollar difference?
