USPS awards multi-million dollar contract for package sorter and overhead camera systems

Louisville (KY), USA. VITRONIC Machine Vision Limited today announced that it was awarded a multimillion contract by The United States Postal Service ® (USPS) for 126 package sorter and overhead camera (PSOC) system kits for use in mail processing facilities.

Under terms of the agreement, VITRONIC will supply the USPS with 126 VICAMssi2 line-scan camera systems and mounting frames for use on a fleet of mail sorting equipment. This scanning solution will capture USPS tracking barcode data as mail is processed in the Postal Distribution Network.

The VICAMssi2 is an advanced parcel information acquisition and analysis system designed for applications in the high-speed parcel, mailing, and material handling industries.

  8. I thought the p.o. was quickly running out of money? Saw just today in the paper and online that they might have to default on financial obligations later in the year. Where did the money come from to buy this new machinery?
