  1. I find it hard to believe that these letter carriers were doing this while management had no idea as to what was going on. The fact of the matter is management collects a lot of data about a carrier’s work performance besides scan points that should have prompted management that something was going wrong. There must have been a deliberate disregard on management’s part to ignore the glaring red flags that were waving in front of their faces. Even if the carriers where tossing the mail in the dumpsters, customer complaints about not receiving their mail should have prompted an investigation long before it landed on the national news.

This is a total embarrassment and a black eye to the US Postal Service and the hard working letter carriers that serve their patrons. The US Postal Service is fighting for its very existence and we do not need events like this being plastered all over the news.

  2. These carriers give the public the impression that all postal employee’s are lazy and waste time. I can’t imagine that they would be able to keep their jobs, however our union has saved the jobs of many carriers i thought had no chance of returning to work.

  3. I don’t care what tragic personal events they can cite in defense of their poor choices. They and anybody who acts like them or defends their behavior are the reason the USPS is failing. All companies go through ups and downs financially. We are no different. But it is employees like this who destroy not only our credibility in the public eye, but also flat out embezzel money from our company by stealing their paychecks. If the unions would stop running protection for scumbags like these, we might possibly be able to cut this type of employee out of our ranks and salvage the company for the rest of us who do work hard every day, and for an american public who still has respect for a company who has many employees who don’t have respect for it. A couple other issues… First, the management team in that station should have been walked out without pay as well. To transfer them to other stations is just magnifying the problem. Now, there will be several other stations with these terrible managers who will be allowed through neglect to accomplish the same thing. Second, Nobody said anything about the mail! WTF??? Where is it? Were these idiots already done delivering? CAN YOU JOIN ME IN A RESOUNDING NO!!!!!? In a bar for 3 to 4 hours with at least half a routes mail in the truck… What did they do with it? What time did they return to the office on those days? Tell me, you supporters of these bar room buddy employees… How does this work towards our companies bottom line? What do you think the hundreds of residential customers on the remainder of those routes feel? How do the managers respond when they call the office and demand to know where their mail is? And before you ask… I’m a manager now, but I was a letter carrier for a long time and I would have been just as dissappointed in their behavior then as I am now. When this company fails… and make no mistake about it, it will fail. I hope all you supporters are lined up behind me in the unemployement line. Bleeding heart escapist doom sayers! Always complaining that the man is trying to hold you down and pick on you! You are full of yourself and need to wake up before we are all looking for jobs.

  4. OMG, I CAN’T BELIEVE THEM, THEY R GONE 4 SURE, THEY MIGHT HAVE GOTTEN THEIR JOBS BACK IF IT WAS JUST THE DRINKING. THEY HAVE A COPY OF THEIR SCAN POINTS SHAME ON THEM, WHICH IS STEALING TIME, I’M A 26YR VETERAN OF THE POSTAL SERVICE AS LETTER CARRIER OFBRANCH #67 ELIZABETH NJ& ALSO A SHOP STEWARD.I WOULDN’T WANT 2 FILE A GRIEVANCE IN THIS CASE.

  5. They certainly were not concerned with being caught. However, I’m curious how many Fox employees have a drink during their work day. Do you plan an expose on this?

  6. I’m a retired postal carrier. These scum bags need to be persecuted and also their supervisor and manager. Fired them all. There is no way any mail route can be delivered with the delivery person taking two or three hours off. So, either they are temporary workers who come or go or their management personnel are also involved in wrong doing and everyone covers up for each other. Either way, they have forfeited their jobs and their job security and given the rest of the hard working carriers a bad name. What a disgrace!!

  7. If this was your business would you want these guys working for you?
These guys deliberatly set out to steal time from the postal service.
They are Union members and unfortunately the union will have to defend them.
These are the people that would give any company that they work for a bad name.
They should be billed for the time that they have stolen by working overtime..

  8. Funny that these same bullies and moral crusaders didn’t bother with echoing meaningful coverage of the Arizona incident that happened the very next morning. Nobody seems to be creating shadowblogs to highlight Gabrielle Giffords’ fearful remarks about Sarah Palin’s use of violent imagery. Oh, wait. Sarah works for Fox. LOLOLOLOL.

  9. Are you a letter carrier? If you are and you did your route in 8 hrs a day everyday last pay period then you made about $1000 less than either of these guys. And yes, they are Full Time Carriers AND they are Union Members. Stop making excuses for these two jerks. Personally, I’m glad somebody caught them and I’m glad they caught them on video so they can’t deny it. No, this isn’t going to solve all of Post Office’s fiscal problems, but it should wake a few people up to some of the problems we do have and maybe more people, supervisors and craft employees alike, will start doing the job they’re paid to do. Oh, and quit ragging on the news team for doing what they were hired to do, i.e. reporting the news. After all if the post office employees were doing their job, albeit delivering the mail or supervising the distribution and delivery of the mail, this would not have been a news story.
Time to wake up, before we all go down the tubes. Think the P.O. is immune from fiscal failure and your job will always be there? Dream on.

  10. I am a Postal Service employee. I am ashamed that this type of behavior still goes on. It’s a shame that these employees were unaccounted for by Postal Management.

But the biggest shame in all of this! ” Mr Investigative Reporter” and the FOX Philly television network were more concerned about ratings and NOT public safety. How else do you explain why you would not have reported this behavior the first time it was discovered on December 17th? No! We wait an entire month and allow these Postal employees to repeat the behavior numerous times. We even video tape them driving the Postal Vehicle after consuming alcohol and don’t report it. Why? Because they haven’t got a story yet that can be sensationalized! What if one of those employees drove while intoxicated and harmed someone between December 17th and January 20th? That would have been a real tragedy. And that tragedy would have been as much the fault of the television reporter who did not immediately report to Postal Authorities what was going on on December 17th

  11. There are plenty more that work for this organization that are scamming the USPS.
It is a horrible situation. Contract language needs to be changed! Support the good employees and get rid of the losers.
Too bad that the hard working carriers in this organization are taking a bad rap for what these 3 losers did.

  12. Foxphilly has nothing better to do? This happened on Fri Jan 7, the next morning and three time zones over was the terrible tragedy in Tuscon,Az. Could you imagine if Fox spent its time investigating important matters. Perhaps they could have tailed Loughner like they did these postal workers.

  13. I can not believe that most of you think that it was OK!. They were drinking & driving. What happens if they would of killed somebody while driving the LLV.The problem I see is people think it is ok to get away with this. I have 29 yrs with the PO. I think Fox did a good job.

  14. The TV news station obviously was tip on these guys activity. At first I was upset thinking this to be racism and with Fox its possible nevertheless, what these guys did was wrong and foolish. Their routes was under and volume had to be extremely low but DOIS probally said otherwise. That is the practice we face daily . The real truth is integrity is at an all time low on both side, management and craft. They say fairness but for who, fairness does not equal to truth of the matter. Yes its about the numbers, so at least lets ensure they are correct. By the way this a global problem with all the majors businesses. Just take your camera and turn it on your own company and press record, You will see the same things.

  15. They can enter a drug and alchohol program and be readmitted with out back pay..this was commonplace years ago. not so smart or common now aDAYS.the barcode system has its flaws. management have been to lazy to do the job they are hire to do.they circumvent the system to keep their work load down. sitting all day at the computer checking the scans. the postal service pulled scan points out of collection points here in st louis . how do they know there is a pick up?they are destroying the service.

  16. Don’t blame Fox. We had an NBC affiliate do the same thing at our city stations. Filmed letter carriers spending hours in a bar, day after day. The carriers said the same thing these did when confronted…”Beer? Naw, I wan’t drinking…” Ours weren’t scanning barcodes, though. With Postal vehicles in the parking lot and drinking in their uniforms, did they really think it wouldn’t get noticed, eventually? I wonder how long this has been going on?

  17. the American Letter Mail Company wants equal time with FOX
no network should have a monoploy on parody

  18. I’m too well aware of the postal environment, but unlike most individuals that submitted comments, I won’t be “one-sided”. There are issues with postal management and the postal craft workers. However, there are some facts rhethoric can’t deny. Most of the jobs that have been eliminated in the postal service have been management jobs. Not ONE union worker has lost their job. A reduction of over 200,000 jobs the last few years, and not ONE union job has been taken. Come on NALC, APWU, etc. The majority of your postal workers are efficient, but stop protecting the “slackers”, and change or eliminate the multitude of contractual language that cripples the postal services’s abilty to serve the American citizens. Look at the back of you your paystub . . . it is written, “from our customers”.

  19. what these guys did was wrong, but did it need to be on TV ? Are we all angels ? Can’t Fox fined some more important stories like our school system.

  20. Why is most of you don’t have the guys to use your real names. Bunch of cowards. You more than likely hide behind your union stewards to cover up your gold digging.
    Man or Women up.

    Frank

  21. You whiny children. These guys are crooks. They Drank on the clock, falsified time records, drove under the influence and delayed the mail. Wake up. They deserved what they got. Oh believe me the Idiots with the NALC will fight to get their jobs back. What they should be doing is standing up like law abiding citizens and tell these jerks – You made the bed, you knew what you were doing, you lye in the bed, have a nice life. But they won’t the union is as crooked as these jerks. Hope there lives sucks they deserve what they get. ESAD

  22. I am surprised that anyone would defend these postal workers and attack the news. I think the majority of people respect their mail carriers, I do! If an employee doesn’t do his or her job correctly everyone pays. By drinking and then driving they endanger themselves and others.
Thank you for reporting on these Rouge workers.

  23. Wow what a world we live in. I faught for my country so everyone has their freedom. Mr. Fox please point the finger at the guilty not at every USPS employee. If there are a couple ROUGE workers it does. Not mean they are all bad.

  24. Wow 200,000 apwu postal employees. These two were NALC you guys at fox did the rest of us NO JUSTICE!!! I have never drank on the job stole or anything else to jepordize my job and you guys just lumped everyone together!! I didnt hear once in your story that other Postal Employees completed their rounds without delay. My house wont be watching your channell ant more.

  25. Sounds like Jeff Fox was a little jealous. C’mon Mr Fox ….you never downed one on the job ????

  26. They did not delay the mail—they ran what little of a route they had. Took pitcures of the msp labels ___falisication of time records ===fired—on the spot.
Just gives us all good postal workers a bad name. 35 years ago you could do this—just like the beer delivery guys.. not any more. I will lay money that these guys are temporay workers and not union members. or even full time workers. This is what our Post office wants to go to—temporray workers-0–look at all the problems they have had with sub contraction these jobs in Florida—-subs stealling anythin and every thing—then when they come after them==they have already got therte paychecks and skipped out of town.

  27. Contemplate this………is is a sad day for the poor choice made by the carriers, the impact on their families and sad for the tarnish on all hard working postal employees !!! It comes at a time that we are at a crossroads while our country experiences a downturn economically and Washington is full of politics. As employees we saw Little George (Bush) steal from the USPS coffers with the pre-funding retiree health benefit scam. As a postal employee I don’t see the our customers comprehending the impact of the pre-funding debacle and how they are being scammed and we are having our reputation slammed. The decisons made by the employees in Philadelphia have hurt all of us.

  28. Really, people, really? Some of you are going to defend these guys. If they were grieving at lunch, did they really need to drink so much beer? They obviously had plenty of down time that they could have been assiting their brother and sister, non-ODL, NALC members.

So even if you want to forgive the drinking, how about the copies of the MSP labels they were sitting at the bar and scanning? Did some of you not watch that far into it? Falsifying records is a blatant offense. Not even to mention the cardinal sin of “willfully delaying mail”.

Face it folks, this is the public perception of the USPS. We make gobs of money and don’t do jack for it. These folks are fine examples. This is STEALING and it’s happening all over the country. I am sure they didn’t go back and tell their Supervisor “Hey, dock me for the three and a half hours I spent at the pub. I wouldn’t want the USPS to have to pay to support the fact that I am nothing but a stinking thief”. Get your heads out of the clouds. The service is DYING and it’s people like thses who are helping to make it happen!

  29. By your logic, Halliburton is a government agency, as well. In the last ten years, we’ve spent hundreds of millions more to resolve their no-bid mistakes overseas than we ever did on “lazy union employees”. Signed sealed and delivered by the real Mad Hatter of the Tea Party. Rupert Murdoch.

Poor Sarah. If only she could really be as attractive as I’m constantly hearing she is. Unfortunately for her, sometimes the ugliness inside shows on the surface. I’m just not into simpletons. I do in fact like that she’s a hunter. But she kind of lost me with the “aerial hunting of wolves” thing.

If you want to get outraged, brother; get outraged at these folks. For hijacking the Christian faith, our once-proud Republican party, our news and our armed services.

And use your real name when you do.

  30. Well I hope you feel good about yourself. Now a few postal workers you could have you destroyed them and their families .Did you get the whole story ? What dove him to drink ? Was it just a drinking problem or was it his daughter that got hit by that car? I hear is wife has cancer. But you don’t know and don’t really care do you ? As far as I’m concerned I heard half the story someone just to get something on the NEWS

  31. the USPS IS a govt agency (when it wants to be) and it’s BS employees like this who give it a bad rep. These type of specimens hide behind the union and file greivances left and right and cost USPS lots of $$$. Then grandma craps her depends when they raise the price of stamps. it’s a lose/lose situation.

p.s. Jon Gifford don’t act like you wouldnt nail sassy Sarah P.
Oh you STILL haven’t forgotten Arizona? really, after all this time? WOW! what a elephant like memory you have.

  32. Our mail carriers in Mt. Airy have always been awesome. It’s easy to pick bad apples out of any barrel in any industry. The USPS is not a government organization. It operates a very reliable and valuable service on a shoestring budget. I bet you could find FedEx guys who drink on the job, too. But somehow it’s not as salacious and doesn’t fit Fox’s larger political agenda. I bet if the USPS was listed on the NYSE and contributed to ultraconservative political campaigns they’d spare us this “groundbreaking” expose. Talk about Bread and Circuses. Maybe we need an expose on Fox News’ connections to peddlers of violent rhetoric and industry leaders who are responsible for illegal war, human testing of pharmaceuticals — and worse. Sorry guys. I still haven’t forgotten Arizona. Say hello to Palin and Glen Beck for us, though.

  33. I am sick and tired of people wanting to just show postal workers that are useless. Are you stupid enough to believe that they are the only workers in this country that are less than acceptable at times? That the postal service is the only company or business that have these kinds of employees???

How about a little fairness and if we are going to film one then lets film all…

  34. you follow any other uniformed people into bars and film them?? I hope they come after YOU…………….

  35. 3 more jobs they will not have to cut. With all the downsizing employees had better beware. Any reason will be a reason to remove employees. These guys hopefully learn a valuble lesson.

  36. you just saw the tip of the iceberg, all levels of employees in the post office do things like this, from drugs, sex, harrassment, going postal was not made up for no reason.
