Post Offices Open Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve

Most Will Close at Noon

WASHINGTON — All Post Offices nationwide will be open Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24, and New Year’s Eve, Friday, Dec. 31, but most will have shortened retail lobby hours and close at noon. Mail delivery for Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 is not affected by the change.

Revised hours will be posted at each Post Office and commercial customers are asked to check with their Business Mail Entry Unit for Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 hours of operation.

Customers may go online to usps.com or call 1-800-ASK-USPS for information about specific Post Offices. In addition, mail should be deposited into blue collection mailboxes before noon for early pickup on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. Customers requiring postal services later that day are encouraged to contact their local Postmaster.

  1. I want all letter carriers and clerks working up to 6 PM local time. As for management employees, you can go home whenever you want.Merry Christmas

  2. Shutting down our Clerk operation early does not make any sense. They still have to wait for the truck to come at 5PM to pick up whatever mail etc that needs to be transported. I understand that it is a slow time but the Letter Carriers are still on the street and they have packages and other items that maybe can’t be delivered and customers may want to pick these items up so they can have them for Christmas. A lot of people are leaving work early that day and it may be the only time they can possibly pick items up that are meant for Christmas presents. If everyone were closing early and the Carriers were off the street I would say this makes sense. This is just an excuse for Management to get a jump on the Holiday. The less operation going the less they need to be concerned. We should be about service to our customer and realize that this Holiday above any other one is the cornerstone to our well being. We need to do more – not less for our customers this time of year.
