NAPUS President Urges Congressional Panel to Fix Pension Overpayment and Preserve Universal Service

Today, NAPUS President Bob Rapoza testified before the Senate Subcommittee with jurisdiction over the Postal Service, urging the Congress to promptly correct pension formula that has required the Postal Service to pay at least $50 billion more than it should have towards employee retirement benefits, and to permit the agency to use the surplus to satisfy its retiree health pre-funding liability. The hearing was on S. 3831, the POST Act that was introduced by Sen. Tom Carper. One of the bill’s provision addresses the pension issue. In addition, Rapoza asked the Subcommittee to preserve the statutory protections enjoyed by small town and rural Post Offices. You may download NAPUS’ testimony here.
