‘Work Til 70? Yes, if Boehner and Republicans Have Their Way’

If Republicans take over Congress, House Republican leader John Boehner says he will move to raise the Social Security retirement age to 70. That might not seem a big deal to someone who has spent his life in cushy offices with fancy perks, luxury cars, good health care and not much heavy lifting.

But for millions of seniors in physically demanding jobs, it’s a big, big deal. A new television ad from Protecting America’s Retirees, an independent project of the Alliance for Retired Americans, takes a light-hearted look at the very serious subject of forcing seniors to stay on the job until age 70.

The ad will air in five closely-contested House races in Arizona, Iowa, Ohio and Pennsylvania and in the Pennsylvania Senate race.

  1. The price of liberty and freedom is that you get to be responsible for yourself. Where does it state in the constitution that the people or government is responsible for yourretirement. Not caring? They care more than you can realize, you can’t get beyond your me first mentality. The country and your grandchildren should not be responsible and be required to be indebted so you can retire at 62 or 65 or 70. The country was founded upon the principles of independence and liberty, unfortunatley far to many have become depndant upon a government system for their survival. Woe be to them, they will give up their freedoms and the freedoms we all should desire to have to the state. The state will tell you what you can eat, where you can go, how you can dress, where you can live, where you can go to school, what your job will be – sounds more like the old Soviet Union than America. In America you are free to determine your own path, no one stops you, if you work hard enough, who says you must wait until 70 to retire? or who can say that your required to retire at 70. As life expectancy increases, so should the retirement age. But let’s continue on the statist path, be like France and riot in the streets because the nany state says you have to work a few more years before they will let you retire. Grow up, America, take charge of your life and welfare, be beholden to no man or state; this is what made America.

  2. The republicians don’t care about the american worker or the retirees. They are not a caring party. I don’t vote republican and i never will. All they care about is there special interest. They don’t work for us. They work for special interest.

  3. We the People SHOULD STOP VOTING THESE UNCARING ELECTED OFFICIALS IN OFFICE…They are making sure you do not collect your pension or your social security…WHAT A SHAME!
