Obtaining Post Office Boxes Just Got Easier

Mr. Zip’s Tip: USPS saw a 248% increase in online Post Office Box renewals in Fiscal Year 2009.

The U.S. Postal Service has incorporated improvements in its Post Office Boxes website to make it more user friendly in obtaining a Post Office box.  The changes are based on a USPS usability study and include:

  • A note on the search page helps users find a Post Office Box closest to the address entered, or by ZIP Code, for their delivery Post Office.
  • Acceptable forms of identification are more clearly defined so customers know what to bring with them to the Post Office.
  • E-mail confirmations include language stating customers can visit their local Post Office to begin the verification process if they are moving to another city or state.

Post Office Boxes Online has experienced a 50 percent increase in annual revenue compared to the preceding year.  Individuals wishing to obtain a Post Office box should go to www.usps.com.
