To set the record straight in response to some of the negative comments that have been posted here, shelters and rescue groups do not receive any money from the sale of these commemorative stamps. They only receive attention to encourage people to adopt their next pet from a shelter or rescue group, rather than buy from a dealer, breeder or puppy mill, in which the conditions can be worse.

As with any group or organization, there will be good ones and bad ones. Many of the rescue and adoption groups that I have been involved do a great job in fostering and caring for these unwanted animals, and placing them with loving families. Some shelters have no choice but to put-down perfectly good animals due to over-crowding.

There is a problem of pet overpopulation in this country, too many good cats and dogs, and not enough homes. We live in a throw-away society and do no value the lives of the creatures we take into our homes. This is one way to bring attention to this problem and to encourage people to adopt. I am happy that USPS is issuing these stamps to support pet adoption and animal rescue, like they did a few years ago with the spaying/neutering commemorative stamps.

Thank you for once again bringing the issue of pets to the forefront (previous spay/neuter). It is nice to have the adoption message where so many will be able to see it.

I couldn't agree more with the first commentor. How disgusting! It's bad enough that the HSUS is bilking thousands of contributors out of millions of dollars with their misleading ads, and quite frankly, outright lies about what they do with their donations, but to have the government step in and help them is just a crime!

This is the single most REPULSIVE campaign the USPS has ever been a part of!
"Rescues" are the nastiest places for dogs--and its not for lack of food or adoption, but for the lack of STANDARDS of veterinary care, maintenance, housekeeping, animal husbandry, etc. Unlicensed "Rescues" are the scurge of the animal world! They're Unlicensed Retailers and Breeders of pets under the deception of 'rescue'! For my tax dollars to pay for this kind of criminal behavior is disgusting! (--not to mention the implied 'acceptance' of Ms DeGeneres' immoral lifestyle to represent all citizens as we use our local post office.)

I see NO direction for the "one million meals" in this unlicensed, unchecked, tax-evading "industry". But obviously the postal service didn't have a problem with it! OY!
