New Prices Kick In For USPS Shipping Services

January 4, 2010

Effective today, USPS implements new prices for Shipping Services, which includes Express Mail, Priority Mail, Parcel Select (Destination Entry only), Parcel Return Service, Global Express Guaranteed, Express Mail International and Priority Mail International.

On average, the overall price increase is 3.3 percent.

By comparison, our competitors have announced price increases of nearly 6 percent. And, unlike other shipping companies, USPS does not impose surcharges for fuel, residential delivery, or Saturday delivery.

The Postal Service now is adjusting its shipping prices annually in January, which also coincides with the shipping industry price changes. This provides customers with a clearer picture of the competitive, affordable shipping products offered by the Postal Service.

In addition, customers who pay for their shipping services online will continue to save. On average, online prices are less than retail prices:

• Express Mail — 5 percent less
• Priority Mail — 5.7 percent less
• Global Express Guaranteed — 10 percent less
• Express Mail International — 8 percent less
• Priority Mail International — 5 percent less
