USPS looks to union to help curb costs and avoid contracting

According to the Federal Times: The U.S. Postal Service is asking for the cooperation of its unions in holding down costs if it is to avoid contracting out work, Postmaster General John Potter said last week.“The only way we’re going to be successful … is to have all 700,000 people in the Postal Service begin to focus on revenue,” Potter said at a July 19 hearing on postal outsourcing held by the House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on the Postal Service. Potter said he needed union help to improve service, reduce costs and increase revenue, suggesting lack of help on those issues would necessitate more outsourcing, though he echoed past pledges not to outsource existing postal jobs. While postal unions and some congressional Democrats remain opposed to almost any outsourcing, Potter said postal managers, when asked to cut costs, need the discretion to outsource functions.

  6. only 25%?…. lol ha ha cmon u can do better than that lol……they just need to start disciplining the supervisors for their screw ups instead of trying to blame everything on the workers, your right…no accountability!!!!!!!!!!!!!…..they don’t hesitate to try to fire the union members cuz they are a bunch o union busters anyway….Sure Potter will say that to everybodies face to try to make it sound good, then turn right around and try to make some kinda dirty deal behind our backs to undermine union work……..hell, they practically force us to do their job as it is now, but we don’t get paid extra!!!!! he he lol….outsourcing is just another dirty underhanded union bustin tactic!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Notice he said, “700,000 people in the Postal Service”. I missed where he brought in management. You have managers that cause 100’s of millions of dollars in grievance, EEO, MSPB settlements that are promoted. I would ask Puppet Potter one question, “where is management accountability?” ANSWER: there is none.
